The Syrian war might be at its most significant juncture in years, as regime troops complete their encirclement of rebel-held parts of eastern Aleppo, the former industrial capital of Syrias north.
The idea is simple: to starve the rebel groups into complete submission or create enough domestic pressure on them, from civilians residing there, to pack up and leave. The other option would have been for the Russian and Syrian armies to pound Aleppo from the skies, completely destroying the ancient city, with an astronomically high collateral damage and loss of human life.
Regime sources in Damascus, speaking to Gulf News, confirmed that if the Syrian army succeeds in taking Aleppo, it would change the dynamics of the entire northern front and bring the Syria war to a close.

In exchange for Aleppo, the Russians will probably turn a blind eye to US advances on Minbij and Al Bu Kamal, two cities currently held by Daesh. The Turks will back off in exchange for Russian commitment to prevent the emergence of a autonomous Kurdish state on their border with Syria a nightmare scenario for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Russia, Syria blockade Aleppo, offer safe corridors out for residents and rebels
“The idea is simple: to starve the rebel groups into complete submission or create enough domestic pressure on them, from civilians residing there, to pack up and leave.”
Stupid option, allowing the murderous Muzzie filth to leave. They’ll just reform somewhere else and keep killing. Find them and kill them, down to the last goathumper.
A reasonable assesment, however I believe the Russians do not intend to let men through the escape corridors, and the women and children will be identified and recorded.
In the second article I posted, the Russians are accused of devising a scheme to imprison and kill all the "Rebels" that attempt to use the amnesty corridor.
I would bet that the truth is somewhere in between. In the second Chechen war, Russia (Putin) allowed the less dangerous Chechen Military and their families, to survive for absolute fealty. That deal worked better for Russia than anyone could have imagined, and is still in force today.
If Russia's co opting of the Aleppo "Rebels" works like their co opting of the Chechen Military, it will be very good for Russians and Russia.
Not so much for Europe and the West where these "fighters" were made, and will go.
