Trump said what he said when he said it. Him restating his answer would dilute it in a press conference and would give the media importance. He'd be seen as caving in. It would be as if he had to correct what he said originally.
Trump could go blue in the face trying to explain and "they" won't "get it" because they don't want to. OTOH, look at how many understood his message the instant he uttered it.
Trump should ignore all the hoopla, ignore the khans and go further on with his agenda.... like... Making America Great Again.
