President Barack Obama on Wednesday cut short the sentences of 214 federal inmates, including 67 life sentences, in what the White House called the largest batch of commutations on a single day in more than a century.
Almost all the prisoners were serving time for nonviolent drug crimes, reflecting Obama's long-stated view that the U.S. needs to remedy the consequences of decades of sentencing requirements that put tens of thousands of Americans behind bars for far too long. Obama has pushed for a broader fix to criminal justice laws and has used the aggressive pace of his commutations in an effort to pressure Congress and call more attention to the issue.
All told, Obama has commuted 562 sentences during his presidency -- more than the past nine presidents combined, the White House said. Almost 200 of those who have benefited were serving life sentences.
"All of the individuals receiving commutation today -- incarcerated under outdated and unduly harsh sentencing laws -- embody the president's belief that `America is a nation of second chances,"' White House counsel Neil Eggleston wrote in a blog post.

Sounds about right. After all, obama is just about on his eight thousand four hundred twenty-ninth chance to get things right. /s
Right out of the Alinsky playbook. Expect a series of outrages from this scoundrel until he leaves office.
What % were white? Wouldn’t want to release a disproportionate amount of whites and be offensive to peepoe of color. /s

We sure did waste a lot of money prosecuting those people. Why not just abolish the criminal justice system?
Trump should say that if he is elected, he will pardon those unjustly in prison for the nonviolent offenses levied against tax payers by the IRS. Many innocent citizens have had their homes and businesses invaded by government agents and their property and bank accounts wrongly taken by force. Those who are able to hire good lawyers may eventually get their property back at great legal expense. Those who can’t afford that cost are jailed. These are the ones, of every race and class, whom Trump should pledge to pardon.Their families would be so grateful.
Obama needs to become an uncommuted Federal prisoner.
Who are these people and for what crimes were they convicted?
Let’s just say that not all of Obama’s time spent staring into a mirror is to admire his own reflection, hence his soft touch on drug offenders.
Wait until December.
Did he release Nadel Hasan the Fort Hood workplace violence shooter. Seems to me that Allah would tell Obama to release him
