After a judge ruled that Gov. Matt Bevins moves to replace the University of Louisville Board of Trustees did not pass legal muster, the governor is calling on Attorney General Andy Beshear to say whether he believes the former board meets legal requirements regarding the panels political makeup.
Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd granted Beshears request for a temporary injunction on Friday, finding that Bevins actions in abolishing and reconstituting the UofL board overstepped his authority. Bevins office has said it will appeal the ruling.
In his June 17 press conference, Bevin justified his executive actions by saying the board had fallen into dysfunction. On Tuesday, he injected the boards political makeup into the debate.
The former board was comprised of 13 Democrats, one Republican and an independent, which doesnt even pretend to meet the requirements of state law, Bevin said in a news release. That board was seated by Beshears father and Bevins predecessor, former Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear.
Kentucky law clearly states that the University of Louisville Board of Trustees must have proportional representation of the two leading political parties in the Commonwealth, the first-year Republican governor said in a statement.
The old board didnt even come close to complying with the law. The public deserves to know: Does Attorney General Beshear agree that the old U of L Board was (and, if reconvened, would still be) illegally constituted? Does he believe this illegally constituted board has the authority to meet and conduct business on behalf of the university?
Bevins board, by contrast, had four Democrats, four Republicans and two independents.

Some members of Boards got appointed by the AG's father while he was governor who were contributed to the AG's campaign.
GD Judge, must be in the pocket of the dixie mafia democrats. I’m sick of these judicial fiats.
Democrats don’t have to follow our laws, just look at Clinton, all the mass shooters, sanctuary cities,Obama, DOJ, IRS, FBI.
So, now we know why he disbanded it. He can’t lose with impartial judge.
This is the kind of crap Gov. Fletcher had to deal with, Democrat patronage galore, and putting an end to this nonsense. Spawn of Beshear just wants Gov. Bevin to follow the same path so he can take him out in 2019.
we are in a war and they have guns, and we have mamby pamby talk with a plastic knife for defense...
I'd like to see a war like attitude....
I laugh at the mention of university “regents as somehow a great achievement....all they are are good little rat soldiers...getting thanked with a title...
The frightening thing is that they (Dems) have their hacks ensconced on the bench to enforce their edicts, no matter how immoral or illegal.
Next step: remove the AG.
It looks to me like Bevin is giving the AG a chance to do his job with honor and impartiality. If he fails, which it appears he has, perhaps that is grounds for removing him.
The democrats used to be sneaky about their underhanded manipulation. Now they are brazenly open about it. Perhaps their brazenness will expose them and be their downfall. I hope and pray.
Impeach Spawn of Beshear ? The corrupt Dems still have the House under the Speakership of the even more corrupt ex-AG Stumbo (who set up Gov. Fletcher and ran him out of office). They’ll protect their corrupt guys at all costs.
