Brendan Eich, Fired From Mozilla for Defending Marriage, Has a Brave New Web Browser

Do you remember the name Brendan Eich?

If you're internet savvy, you know him as the creator of JavaScript, the ubiquitous programming language, and you know him as the co-founder of Mozilla, which developed the Firefox browser. That makes him somewhat of a tech legend, and his legend will only increase with the release of his new browser, called Brave, which includes some cutting-edge enhancements. (More on that shortly.)

You'll also remember his name if you've been following the culture wars, since Eich was forced to resign as the CEO of Mozilla in 2014 because he committed the cardinal sin of donating $1,000 to California's Proposition 8 in 2008. (Proposition 8 was the pro-family bill that limited marriage to the union of one man and one woman.)

How dare he act in such an unenlightened way! said his enlightened employees at Mozilla. How dare he be so small-minded and exclusivistic! said his broad-minded and inclusivistic peers. (Sarcasm fully intended.) Surely a man like this is not worthy to be among us at Mozilla.

In reality, in all his years at Mozilla, no one had ever accused him of acting in a bigoted way, and the influential gay journalist Andrew Sullivan commented that "there is not a scintilla of evidence that he has ever discriminated against a single gay person at Mozilla" and so the whole episode "should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society."

I’m trying it out right now and it’s smooth as silk and blazing fast.

Just downloaded it.

First impression is that the browser seems to be very, very fast.

Thanks for the article!

I think this browser has been around since he was fired. Maybe it was a beta one?

Hope it crushes Firefox and he figures a way to put Mozilla out of business.

I’ve been using it off and on for a few weeks. It is fast, as advertised, but doesn’t have all the features that other browsers have. Yet. It is in beta still. It will be good, I think.

Installed, running parallel with Firefox for a while.

This browser looks pretty good at first glance. It has lots of good security features built in.

Has anyone found a tool which will transfer Firefox (or Pale moon) profiles to Brave?

I am using it right now and have been for several months.

It is fast and does block most garbage.

I went to it because of Eich’s stand and have not regretted it.

Better than using Firefox who hounded him out, Chrome from Google, the evil empire or edge which is useless.

No. Pale Moon is Firefox under a different name. This is an entirely new browser that helps protect your privacy by blocking the companies that harvest marketing data from your web browser. They replace the ads with tracking free ads so that there is still a revenue stream for content providers who depend on third party ads to make money.

Something that’s 90 meg seems like another bloated package.

I survive with Firefox 3.6 and havent stepped since then.

I am trying but not too hopeful. I have only 1 meg memory and cant add more. I am on XP and wont move.

Don’t waste your time to download if you have XP. It refuses to even install or allow you to test or try it on XP. Bye.
