Antarctica has confounded scientists, defying the dire predictions of scientists the South Pole would shrink and exacerbate sea level rise in the coming decades.
Climate models predicted Antarctic sea ice would shrink as the world warmed, and that warming would boost snowfall over the southern continent. Neither of those predictions have panned out, and now scientists say natural variability is overwhelming human-induced warming.
Truth is, the science is complex, and that in most places and with most events, natural variability still plays a dominant role, and undoubtedly will continue to do so, Chip Knappenberger, a climate scientist with the libertarian Cato Institute, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
This applies to goings-on in Antarctica as well as in Louisiana, Knappenberger said, referring to the recent flooding in Louisiana activists have already blamed global warming for.
What recent studies have shown is that natural variability in the climate system plays a big role in the South Pole, and there are few signs of man-made global warming in Antarctica.

Translation: We have no idea what is going on and hope we don’t lose our funding.
natural variability?
Oh yeah. It’ll bite ya everytime.
What does truth have to do with science? Science, by its very nature cannot ever be “settled”, as every hypothesis is forever subject to further analysis in light of occasional new nuggets of information that may be discovered.
Science may be a search for an ultimate truth, but truth itself is subject to further evaluation as more and more incongruent and inappropriate relations to reality become apparent. Any hypothesis that does not take into consideration variables will eventually be demonstrated (not necessarily proven) as false.
Let it snow: Temperatures to plunge to record low. New Zealand in August this year. (It’s winter during our summer, remember.)

New Zealand hit by record cold temperatures overnight. June of last year.

I like to remind people who say our hot summer is caused by man-made global warming, that when it is very hot in part of the Earth, it’s very cold in some other part.
If anyone’s looking for something to worry about, here’s a Worldwide phenomenon occurring right now that should get your attention:

And yet these good bugs are used to clean up old gas station sites all the time. And we know the gulf floor leaks oil continuously....and yet the gulf doesn't turn into a sea of oil.
This is the same thing...it's the old plants feed us oxygen and we feed the plants. Mother nature provides the balancing act.
Ping.
Well said and 100 percent in agreement w the history of science
Sinkholes have always been around and always will be - the ground is continually moving and in some places it is feet and some it is millimeters. The caption in the film that they were unknown until 2010 is absolutely false. We had them all the time in East Tennessee when I was a kid - quite frequently.
Many of the publicized ones in China in urban areas are poor site selections and foundations with substandard fill.
In fact, they built a Walmart in Newport Tennessee where they ended up bringing in dumptrucks almost non-stop for many weeks to fill it in and that was in the late 80’s if memory serves.
We have caves. We have underground water reservoirs. As they change the laws of gravity don’t. I am not worried about sinkholes. The surface of the earth is not bedrock - even gigantic mountains that are subsurface of granite are still on top of a moving core.
Mother Nature is like the Free Enterprise system.
Different forces wax and wane until they balance each other out and attain a state of equilibrium.
Then the federal government steps in, upsets the forces at play, destroys the equilibrium, and blows the whole system apart.
You're right... Also, if Global Warming WAS real - - scientists would be jumping up and down with glee as this news- - it would be GOOD NEWS for mankind.
Instead, the rip-off so-called 'scientists' are disappointed the world might be safe from a catastrophe... sweating corrupt funding cuts...

Help! Help! Global Averageness. The climate is staying average.
So apparently in this corner is “Global Warming”, and in that corner is “Natural Variability”. Apparently “Global Warming” hasn’t been able to knock out “Natural Variability” yet, so the fight continues.
Stay tuned for the next episode of Weather wars.
Firstly, it is winter, and very cold, in the southern hemisphere.
Secondly, there is a pole migration in process. Once the southern pole really gets moving the ice will start melting off the Antarctic landmass. just as ice is melting off of Greenland now. The magnetic north pole is off of Siberia’s coast now.
I have seen guesses as to where the poles will eventually settle but I suspect we’ll have to wait and see.
Well crap. Any idea cause we were gonna move closer to the equator but now don’t know where it will be. :-)
However, as you point out, the fact that they are somewhat ah "reserved," maybe even dismayed at the prospect of their dire predictions being proved wrong... That points to their realizing the jig is up, their scam is being revealed by an uncooperative mother nature.
