“An Iran-Saudi nuclear war would help contain Islamic Jihad -”

Western civilization has not yet realized that the nature of war has changed. It is no longer likely to be nation states against each other, but nation states against a crowd-sourced and funded religious war. Not only are we unequipped to fight this new war, government is busy as can be wiping out the only weapon we have to counter it; Christianity. They are from the seventh century and only seventh century tactics will win. You beat them and then threaten to kill them if they don’t convert. Then, if they refuse, you kill them. Can you imagine how the only winning strategy would be received by the Left today?

The collapse of the Arab nation states will only accelerate the Jihad as refugees seek and are granted asylum by clueless governments.

There are other bugs to eat, and the net positive for the world is worth it.
We’re already accused of creating the next wave of extinctions - take out a major parasite while you’re at it. Oh, and it eliminates the problem of mosquito borne illnesses even if new ones are about to arise.

The lefty liberal democrats always commit to their pet project ideas, based on an idealistic view of how the world should operate, consequences be damned. When everything goes to hell, they fall back on the platitude that everything done was with the best intentions, don’t blame them that it turned out so badly. They can’t resist the temptation to gamble everyone’s fate.

The problem with stumbling upon a very potent new tool is learning how to wield it wisely. The tool is neither good or evil; but, allows the foolish pursuit of whims born of hubris. Unforeseen consequences may not allow a reversal of changes wrought out of ignorance. This may be a test that all intelligent life must face—the only way to win being, not to play the game.

It is the unintended consequences that make this kind of thing dangerous. Everything is interdependent. Suppose you kill off all mosquitos. Sure, you’d be wiping out the state bird of Texas, but you have to think about other downsides. What about the bats, birds and reptiles that eat the things by the millions every day?

I thought DDT was losing its effectiveness.

“I thought DDT was losing its effectiveness.”

No, it was outlawed because they felt it effected bird egg shells, specifically of the eagle which was an endangered species at the time.
