Permitting a woman living as the spouse of another woman to receive Communion will garner a very warm afterlife for a priest. For the Pope to use it as an example of good pastoral behavior? I shudder to think.
“Pope Francis has nevertheless chosen to refer to a woman who underwent a sex-change operation as a man, and also referred to her as having married another woman and admitted to receiving them in the Vatican last year.”
Gee, and I thought that is a quote directly from the article?
That’s not how I read the Pope’s quote. But however, if that is the case, why is it false if it aligns to the parable in Luke where Christ admonishes the Lawyer for not taking care of the beaten/robbed man?
I do not think the Pope is ignoring the truth merely for befriending the sinner.
Then he should keep his missinterpreted-as progressive mouth shut.
The Pope received “a letter from a Spaniard who told me”.... the Pope did not declare this person as woman or man, nor married or not. The Pope referenced that the person stated this or that, it’s called context to help you understand the story.
Read the direct quote at the end and juxtapose it to the quote in the article that you then misinterpreted.
The reign of this Pope is like a train wreck in slow motion.
He sure seems to be mis-interpreted a lot...
Is the pope catholic?
I keep wondering...
Sorry I still stand by my opinion.
Yes, by those who only want to tear him down. Including apparently yourself, whom after being disproved can do nothing by assassinate some more...
By using the story of the old priest who gives Communion to the unrepentant sinner he is conferring Papal approval to sin.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, as are those of us who have taken issue with this Pope. This Pope has created a firestorm within the Catholic Church by reason of the things he has said and done. I’m not a Catholic, so I don’t have any reason to see him as anyone but just another human being. Seems though, that a number of Catholics here on FR have also taken exception to the way he comports himself. Follow hilm or don’t follow him, that’s your choice. FWIW, I’ve had it with the religion into which I was born and have given up on it completely. I have a personal believe in God as a “Christian” and I don’t need or want other mortals who merely profess to be better than I am, telling me I’m not good enough all the while they are reaching into my wallet. I also don’t need or want all the “rituals.”

************************************************************
...which makes him Satan’s “Helper”.
Ooooookkkk...best keep you r preaching to your own flock there preacher. He’s said plenty wrong, indicating he is a false pope. It’s happened before, read your history.
Nice words, and you’re right.
But I still think the Pope is daffy.
Wrong....
“the old one, he would say: ‘How long has it been since you confessed? Come, come, let’s to so that I can confess you and you can receive communion.’”
The “old one” asked the sinner to confess and therefore repent.
Amazing.
Yes, I am entitled to my opinion, and you are also. However, neither of us are entitled to manipulate words to result in an outcome that suits our purpose, aka lots of Freepers that seem to manipulate the Pope’s words (much like they do during the primaries when they support candidate a/b/c).
I’m perfectly fine with your practicing Christianity without “Religion”, I believe just like you that the differences between many are simple as small t traditions (in your vernacular “rituals”). I believe your challenge is with your experience directly impacted by humans, whom you have assigned as ‘know-it-alls’ - Yep, I’ve experienced those too, however I accepted that all have failed in some way and the only way to change them is through us imparting the Holy Spirit, through contact. You’ve chosen to become a “hermit”, that’s fine. But don’t assuage all of us who prefer other evangelistic means.
I have read history sir, and much to my chagrin it would seem that there is a group of people who don’t want to minister to sinners and those that do.
If you consider preaching my attempt to point out flaws in a media article that absolutely lies about what the Pope said, then I propose that you don’t belong in FR. For FRs mission is to combat the crazed media that continuously lies about Conservatives and our candidates.
And yes, I’ve read Amoris Laetitia, and many articles here decrying it’s content. The challenge, which I’ve discussed above, is that many jump to conclusions based on media headlines, or media manipulation, when in fact when you dig deep what you find is a different. If you are willing to dig deep...
Then why was she and her "wife" received by the Pope? I'll tell you why.
Because the Jesuit way of "walking with on their journey" has nothing to do with repentance, but everything to do with acceptance, sin and all.
