Dozens of Afghan troops missing from military training in US

Forty-four Afghan troops visiting the United States for military training have gone missing in less than two years, presumably in an effort to live and work illegally in America, Pentagon officials said.

Although the number of disappearances is relatively small — some 2,200 Afghan troops have received military training in the United States since 2007 — the incidents raise questions about security and screening procedures for the programs.

They are also potentially embarrassing for US President Barack Obama’s administration, which has spent billions of dollars training Afghan troops as Washington seeks to extricate itself from the costly, 15-year-old war. The disclosure could fuel criticism by supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has accused the Obama administration of failing to properly vet immigrants from Muslim-majority countries and has pledged a much tougher stance if he wins.

While other foreign troops on US military training visits have sometimes run away, a US defence official said that the frequency of Afghan troops going missing was concerning and “out of the ordinary.”

Since September alone, eight Afghan troops have left military bases without authorization, Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump told a foreign media agency. He said the total number of Afghan troops who have gone missing since January 2015 is 44, a number that has not previously been disclosed.

“The Defense Department is assessing ways to strengthen eligibility criteria for training in ways that will reduce the likelihood of an individual Afghan willingly absconding from training in the US and going AWOL (absent without leave),” Stump said.

Afghans in the US training program are vetted to ensure they have not participated in human rights abuses and are not affiliated with militant groups before being allowed into the United States, Stump said.

I have a solution: Do not bring them here.

“The incompetence of the Obama administration is frigging astonishing.”

Not to mention the point of it all.

Witnessed this first hand in 1993, going through USAF electronics training at Keesler AFB, MS.

There were 5 foreign military students, Saudis if I recall correctly, in our class of about 30. They wore their nation’s uniforms, but on the collar, they wore small metal US insignia representing their equivalent US rank. Though they were all under age 30, they had the equivalent US military rank of SMSGT (That’s 7 stripes).

They were all idiots. We estimated their education level to be about 8th grade.

Half way though the 9-month program one of them just disappeared. The remaining 4 never gave us a direct answer as to where he went, but it was obvious he literally disappeared.

Their vetting process probably resembled this scene from Blazing Saddles:

When apprehended, they should be summarily hanged.

No questions asked.

Our tax dollars at work under Obama and his turn-coat generals in the Pentagon. They are training the enemy to kill our troops.

My daughter was assigned to tutor some Saudis in English while at college. She would concur with that assessment. Emotionally they were arrested at about the 5th. grade level.

Where these muzzies on “leave” or something? You mean we were not keeping a tight reign on these people?

Good grief. This gubbamint of ours is freakin out of control. These are the lives of our children, moms, dads, sisters, wives at stake here.

These b@$t@rd$ are putting our loved ones in jeopardy by bringing in all these foreigners from muzzie locations.

Fuming!

I have another solution, get out of Afghanistan! Then there is no reason to bring them here for training.

Why are we there? What possible objective could we have at this point? It’s certainly not the eradication of the poppy fields, that nets the Taliban income.

Back in the fall of 1978, my college got an influx of Iranians. They made it plain they hated us, didn’t want to be here and refused to speak to anyone. They rarely came to class and didn’t do their work but the profs were instructed to pass them. That didn’t us US citizen students when grades were given on the bell curve.

re>The incompetence of the Obama administration is frigging astonishing

NO ONE can be as incompetent as Obama has shown us. Therefore it is all done for a purpose.
