Excellent interview, and very enlightening.
I havent heard Duterte do anything this long and complex, extemporaneously, in English.
He is very impressive.

He does remind me of Marcos in his English style and ability, which is a very high standard. Marcos didnt have the knack of sincerity though.

Thanx

I posted a stand alone thread (this one) in FR and NOBODY responded to it until I pinged like minded people.

Duterte is a sleeper (on the global stage, but not now in Asia) and I've been promoting him ever since I learned he was running (against his initial wishes).

He's a Trump in so many ways

I asked friends here in Davao City, why it seemed no one wanted to clean things up before Duterte. Mostly, they seemed to think too much money was changing hands.

Good article. Saying justice in the Philippines is slower than a turtle, is an understatement of Biblical proportions.
Here is another opinion I have. Think Colombia. Think Mexico. My opinion is, Duterte is trying to stop the Philippines from becoming the next Mexico. He doesn't want the Philippines to become a narco state. The Justice system is a sick joke, but could you imagine that kind of Justice system and a narco state, all wrapped up in one?

Well it took several amnesties for the low level rebels and some heavy fighting to stop FARC in Colombia, so you are probably right.

however if the hit squads overdo it, popular opinion will decrease. So far most of the killed seem to be drug pushers, and the regular addicts are gettingrehaband amnesty.

the hysteria is because he is also going after corrupt cops and politicians.

one of his opponents in the election is married to a CIA operative and might have won if he hadn't entered the race

Yes, he is messing with their little fiefdoms, and they don't like it. I see he sacked the NBI director, De Lima.
I agree, they can't over do it.
