For all the talk about demographic changes, the truth is that something like 77% of the votes in this election will be cast by white people.

I remember Republicans used to be blue. When did we turn red?

Hillary isn't going to get the same percentages of black and Hispanic voters that Obama got.

And a lot of white Democrats are crossing over for Trump.

I said it before and I'll bet anyone $25 FR donation: Trump will win a minimum of 40 states, and will be the first presidential candidate to get 100 million popular votes.

Encouraging to hear from Pat, but a Republican’s path to electoral victory is a LOT harder these days. Since 1988, Democrats have won the popular vote 5 out of 6 times. Blue states have become deeper blue, and formerly safe red states (like VA and NC) are now purple. Remember, Bush’s electoral wins came with only 271 and 286 EVs. Democrat EV wins have been more convincing. Now, just to get to 270, Trump needs all of Romney’s states along with FL, OH, IA, NV, NH and 1 EV from ME. He has to hold on to NC and hope that states like AZ or UT don’t throw him a curve ball. If he loses one of these “270” states, where does he make up for it? (We always get our hopes up for states like PA, WI, or MI, but they disappoint us every four years.) There’s not a lot of wiggle room for a Republican. I just hope things fall into place for Trump.

CNN thought it was funny to try to make conservatives seem like Communists so they flipped the colors, I forget when. Ironic now that Democrats are now further left than the Russians.

Yes I remember it well. They didn’t like the better dead than red stigma, while blue was the traditional color of the Tory Party in England: true blue conservative.

I take your point, but two of those Clinton elections were pluralities, and he never went over 50%.

I’ve only known red for conservative. I like it. Red to me looks powerful, good, right while blue says weak, sissy, pansy, liberal. I’m sure I’d feel differently if I had been old enough to see blue for GOP, but I’d be disappointed if they changed them now.

Did you mean 1994? That’s when Newt and Company took Congress from ole Tom Foley.

Bob Dole lost to Clinton in 96.

It feels very little like 1980. And yes, I was old enough to remember and vote back then.

Well, it’s a safe bet. Trump will not get 100+ million votes, and he will not win 10 states, much as I would love to see it.
