Neatness award? They didn’t have anything like that when I worked for Uncle Sam

My grandson is a 1st year cadet at the AF Academy and is sleeping with his head at the foot of his bunk, in his clothes, on top of the blankets because they have 5 minutes to be up in the AM and ready for inspection, which includes the way the bed is made judged by ruler!

The lower bars on his rank indicate he as a Staff Captain - one of the top Captains. I would expect there were only 12 - 14 in his class, and he was one of the top ones. Only Regimental Commander would have been above him.

I was on the Lancer’s equestrian Drill Team - what a hoot. One of the best equestrian drill teams in the world. Of course, there aren’t that many.....

My First Class (Senior) year I trained horses to not fear fire and jump through a hoop of fire.......the final maneuver of our program when indoors. In pairs, two riders would jump through a hoop of fire holding our 8’ lances horizontally in a “Charge!” position. Outdoors the jump would be over a hedgerow of bushes.....

“These days, Donald Trump is known more as a presidential candidate and reality TV personality, but back in the 1960s, he was something of a talented ball player — one good enough, it seems, to be scouted by our very own Phillies.”

I bet President Trump doesn't try to shake the hand of the Marine standing at attention at his helicopter.

Clueless Obama - what a turd.

Let's not get carried away with this. New York State Military Academy is a military themed college-prep boarding high school. That is all.

Bump. bttt.

Amazing we never learned this over the course of the entire campaign. Not that it would have mattered to me but that he attended military school speaks volumes to his self-discipline, integrity and leadership. It is an extremely important foundational aspect to his life that I was not previously aware of.

Go Trump.

Been there, done that, but you don't get neatness awards at USAFA. At best you just hope no one yells at you for a sloppy room.

Congrats to your grandson.

We didn’t get rewards, it was REQUIRED by everyone. If you didn’t measure up, you were punished by embarrassment and humiliation at a minimum.

At a morning inspection, my chief instructor grabbed my white hat (held out for inspection) and asked “What did you do, piss in it?”

My hat was damp from perspiration, We were after all standing at attention on the blacktop in the hot Florida sun, so he let me slide.

As i understand it, he was also a LEADER during those school years, and had a great deal of respect from those whom he led.
