Donald Trump has taken the unprecedented step of requesting his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, receive top-secret clearance to join him for his Presidential Daily Briefings, which began Tuesday.
Multiple sources tell NBC News Trump received his first briefing on Tuesday and designated both Kushner and Ret. Gen. Michael Flynn as his staff-level companions for the briefings going forward.
While Flynn has the necessary security clearance, Kushner does not, and it could take weeks — or even longer — for him to receive it.

They had no problem colluding with Hillary’s months and months of campaigning without press conferences. But an evening dinner at a local steak house? (Hardly a secret environment.) Horrible!
There’s a couple of #neverTrumpers who have been allowed back in and are right back to their same old pre-time-out crap.
I read that the security clearance is necessary to have access to the qualifications summaries that have been prepared on the individuals who have applied for many of the positions.
Trump would have to designate him a national security advisor.

Granted, this tweet qualifies the clearance as "top level," and it may be that Trump is seeking a lower level of clearance for family that he wants to have advising him on transition.

Not sure if this is even true but from information I have read Jared is considered an expert on Israel. Could be Trump wants to have a clearance for him on matters concerning Israel issues.
The agency that does the investigation and adjudicate aren't likely to throw up unnecessary roadblocks - if he has valid reason for a official purpose, the need-to-know can be validated and the background investigation can go through.
Ain't been paying attention have we. He originally inquired about his eldest children as they worked to get him elected and he trusts/respects their advice - he's likely to want to have some conversations with them that might cross into some sort of classified even if it isn't earth-shattering info. He wants his son-in-law to formally advise him. Generally, family members aren't given clearances and there is an assumption that they may be exposed to some classified info as being part of the family (especially wives). He's wanting to do it right instead of just being under a pledge of trust that they won't be exposed to much and won't blab it. The clearance request is an attempt to insure formal accountability to National Security rules/laws. If they don't get the clearance, then they cannot be formally held responsible unless they actually try to harm the Nation.
Either of you have any real experience/exposure to the classified world?

The ‘bad idea’ was for Hillary to get Huma Abedin every clearance she has. Same thing goes for a lot of people in the Obama Administration.
The PDB is a Presidential Decision Brief constructed solely for the President and those he sees fit to see. Give it to him now, or on January 20, 2017 President Trump will authorize the clearance himself. He doesn’t need to ‘ask’ for it then. If he sees Jared as a TRUSTED advisor, I see nothing wrong with it.
