About 15 years ago, some “artists” began using the occasion of the national anthem to showcase a black-pseudo gospel-drawn out-street cred version of the Star Spangled Banner. I did not watch Franklin's, but I assume that is what it was. Probably like Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love Lou meets Francis Scott Key.

Should this even be allowed?

The final verse is epitaph to the Clinton/progressive era.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I saw it. She actually repeated many of the lines three times.

Nothing says Thanksgiving quite like butchering the national anthem with 5-minutes of ghetto yodeling.

I just watched it. It was about her narcissism. It had nothing to do with patriotism, the flag, or our nation. I also believe a lot of it is tied to black resentment and radicalism. They believe that the nation is composed of a bunch of white racists, and the national anthem must be African-Americanized as a Big FU to our racist white men who founded the nation. Some would hip-hop and rap the national anthem if they could get away with it, and they probably already have.

They should just play a video of Whitney Houston’s best-ever National Anthem from the 1991 Super Bowl. That’s the gold standard and eliminated all need to create the circumstances for this abomination from yesterday. We muted the audio, took a nap, had Thanksgiving dinner and came back - bi$?h was still going.....

Given the current leadership of the NFL, I believe it is probably also encouraged.

Agreed. That was Whitney Houston’s best rendition. She went off the edge with versions of her songs like when I mentioned before, but she hit that national anthem spot on

I love Aretha.

I loved that she accompanied herself.

She was, and is one of a kind.

She is not long for this world.

I decided to enjoy her while we’ve still got her.

Her artistic license with the anthem I excused because of all the above.

Your format altering “Freeeeeee” is now officially longer than her version of the Anthem.

I saw it. She actually repeated many of the lines three times.

I didn't see it, so anything I say is pure speculation. From the comments here, it doesn't sound like she was being disrespectful, or trying to make some kind of statement. If she was repeating lines several times, is it possible she's showing signs of dementia, and didn't even realize she was repeating the lines? Again, just pure speculation here.

Urban yodeling.
