It is a defeat for the Saudis and Qataris who wanted a gas pipeline across Syria. You are correct; we did not have a dog in the fight. We were hauled into this mess to try to get them the pipeline. With Trump’s election, the deal is dead. Win for Russia, loss for the Saudis and Qataris. We only lose prestige over the lack of a coherent foreign policy.
