Small Business Owners' Optimism Skyrockets Following Trump Victory

President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. elections is a giant leap for small businesses, according to a survey of their owners.

The November reading of the National Federation of Independent Businesses' small business optimism index jumped to 98.4 from 94.9 — its sharpest surge since 2009 — with all of the increase in sentiment coming after the U.S. elections held on Nov. 8.

“This month we bifurcated the data to measure the results before and after the election,” explained Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg. “The November index was basically unchanged from October's reading up to the point of the election and then rose dramatically after the results of the election were known.”

The Trump Effect - confidence, optimism. Under Obama the U.S. was beginning to get that “sad socialist” feel to it.

Sure - just the prospect of at long last not having a Federal government actively attacking us with intent to loot does wonders for business optimism. :)

The Trump Effect

I think my balls grew a little bit too (not the old man kinda growing). I have no accurate measurement, though.

I asked my Dad if things now are worse than in the 70s. He said, "Yes, by far. Because in the 70s people were just having a crisis of confidence. They didn't actively *hate* America."

The new administration has a lot to do. Getting rid of a few million illegals - a massive drain on the US in a multitude of ways - is a good start. Fixes a problem, and gets rid of people who hate our country.

Dumping all of this global warming nonsense, while necessary and also satisfying, IMO won't change much in the long run. Same people will be around, watching and waiting for the *next* global "crisis" that they can use for a massive power grab, and they'll be assisted by the same useful idiots.

I predict it will be something "fresh water" based.

I know a machinist who does drag car engines, he said that he was barely making enough money to keep the lights on. He now has months of work lined up and it is all because of Trump.

Excellent news. This shows that disposable income is expected to rise in America. Let's hope America (at least the Tampa Bay area) wants more high quality donuts.

Wife and I just received our business license to start a concession venture. No way would we have spent most of our savings on this under Obama or Killary.

I agree with your father. I’m old enough to remember the 70s and things were different. Yes, we still had hippies, leftists, black power idiots, E.R.A. feminists and so on, but the vast majority of people truly loved America and still believed in many traditional values. The WWII generation was in its fifties and they held a great deal of sway in business, politics, education, entertainment, etc.

People were upset about Vietnam, Watergate, inflation, O.P.E.C. and gas prices, factories shutting down, and a number of other things. They still loved America - even with all of those problems.

After decades of public schools and mass entertainment attacking everything American, however, I don’t think that attitude prevails as it once did.

It’s Morning In America, optimism everywhere. I am so glad my teenage kids will get to experience American Greatness like I did as a child in the ‘80s.

At start up, we’ll be selling general concession goods. Drinks, popcorn, boiled peanuts etc. Hope to start serving cooked food (hot dogs burgers) in a few months. Dealing with the health department is a pain in the arse.

Small business owner here. I also have a resugence of confidence in the near term economy, due to President Trump’s promise to push illegal aliens out of the U.S. workforce.

My family’s fortunes will radically improve, if he comes through on that promise. For now, I’m taking him at his word, that he’ll deliver.

A “few” million? Deporting a few million illegals won’t make a dent in the effects these people are causing to our economy.

There are likely upwards of 40 million of them living and working here. We need to remove tens of millions of them from the work force and the welfare rolls before we feel a difference.

Oh, unquestionably. But the longest journey starts with a single step. We've been years getting here, will take years to dig out.

I think that if DJT's administration just cuts off benefits and puts some teeth in the existing laws, many of the illegals will self-deport, and quickly. That, in combination with building a wall to keep more from coming in, hopefully will leave American with a problem of a manageable size.

For every $1000 in benefits that those 40 million illegals get, that's 40 *Billion* tax dollars collected from American citizens, but not being returned to American Citizens. A Billion dollars is an unimaginable amount of money, 40 (or 80, or 120) even more so.

And those are hard costs. More difficult to put a dollar figure on the drain for education, law enforcement, medical and hospital, and on, and on. Just the added costs of uninsured motorist car insurance - particularly in CA - must be immense.

I think that fixing this problem will have a massive, positive effect on the economy, but it might take awhile to see.

I was a kid in the seventies but I remember. Things were expensive, the government had gone all weird and actually seemed to be working against us. Everybody was worried about losing their jobs, but few in my acquaintance actually did. But, life went on surprisingly normally. Not like today, at all. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count all the people I know who have lost jobs or are having a tough time. They say there’s no inflation but I know groceries are pushing double what they were in 2008 when I first started having to watch my own spending. Trump represents hope for the future for private sector working people, and I hope he lives up to it. Positive indications thus far.

I completely agree. Turning off 'the magnet' is the absolute most effective means we have, to encourage these border jumpers to go home. They can't survive here, without access to our jobs and our welfare system.

Best part of all, it only takes honest enforcement of our existing laws to accomplish this. Any president since Eisenhower could have done it. It appears that we finally have a president who will.

We hope.
