An Afriqiyah Airways A320 with around 120 people on board has just landed in Malta after it was hijacked.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted he is informed of a potential hijack situation of an internal Libyan flight diverted to Malta. Security and emergency operations were standing by.
According to reports received by Times of Malta, the plane was on an internal flight from Sebha to Tripoli in Libya. A total of 111 passengers and a crew of seven are on board.
The reports indicated that one hijacker is on board. He is claiming to be in possession of a hand grenade.
The hijacker claiming to be pro-Gaddafi, said he was willing to let all passengers go apart from the crew, if his demands were met.
It is not known what his demands are at this stage.
Afriqiyah Airways operates from Sebha to Tripoli on Friday, leaving at 10.10am and arriving at 11.20am.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. BUMP!
Release swine onto the plane. He will take care of himself.
You are gonna run out of hand grenades long before we get tired of watching you die.
Good idea BUMP! : )
What do the passengers have to protect themselves with.
3.4 oz of hand lotion?
Just another illegal immigrant using a somewhat unusual method of transport.
Grant him immunity, put him on the public dole, bring his family over, give him a get-out-of-jail-free card for any future rape charges (of the local young women), build a minaret in the midtown square to accommodate his religion of peace, give him a fake license to drive a huge lorry so he can drive said lorry into a crowd at a local market...and then pat yourselves on the back for increasing diversity.
Since when does anyone after 9/11 suffer a plane to be hijacked. What would Todd Beamer say?
Good luck to the passengers and crew.
How did he get a grenade on board? Guess he was in line behind a group of nuns who had to be frisked so was ushered through without a second glance.
The hijacker claiming to be pro-Gaddafi... and thus, anti-ISIS. Wonder why he hijacked the plane.
MSNBC reporting two pistols recovered were fake. Passengers were shaking hands of their captors. They are reporting that this event may be a political stunt only with the hijackers trying to just escape libya.
"Hey everybody, I've got two fake pistols. Who wants to go to Malta and claim asylum?"
