The one thing neither of those lesser candidates had, even during Romney’s run, was the power to ignore the media and to then beat them and their candidate with a campaign conducted mostly through social media and the internet. Without the internet, Trump didn’t have had a chance. This is the first election where the power of the internet to bypass the lamestream came through in a spectacular way.
