Looks like a painful screw-up by the govt of Greece and the Community of Sant’Egidio. The CSE people OKed the Christian brother and sister, but the Greek govt said that the EU (of which Greece us a member) had just inked an agreement with Turkey, and the brother-suster had missed the deadline by 10 days.
You and I may wonder, Hey, Francis is the Pope, couldn’t he pull strings? But we don’t know. All we know is that the CSE then had to scramble to find somebody who was legally eligible, and the Christian bro-sis were left behind in the camp on the island of Lesbos.
I personally would say that was heartbreaking, but not the Pope’s fault. He’s not the one who wrote the eligibility requirements or who did the actual selection.
