The "Russian Hacking" Story Changes Again
ZeroHedge.com ^ | 5 January 2017 | Tyler Durden

Today at 9:30 am, senior U.S. intelligence officials face questions at a Senate hearing that will be dominated by the intelligence community's assessment that Russia meddled in the presidential election to help Donald Trump win. Participating will be James R. Clapper, Jr., Director Of National Intelligence. Marcel J. Lettre II, Under Secretary Of Defense For Intelligence and Admiral Michael S. Rogers, USN, Commander, United States Cyber Command.

The Armed Services Committee's cyber threats hearing on Thursday comes a day before the president-elect is to be briefed by the CIA and FBI directors — along with the director of national intelligence — on the investigation into Russia's alleged hacking efforts. Trump has been deeply critical of their findings, even appearing to back controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's contention that Russia did not provide him with hacked Democratic emails.

The committee's session is the first in a series aimed at investigating purported Russian cyber-attacks against U.S. interests and developing defenses sturdy enough to blunt future intrusions. "We will obviously be talking about the hacking, but the main thing is the whole issue of cybersecurity," the committee's Republican chairman, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, said ahead of the hearing. "Right now we have no policy, no strategy to counter cyberattacks."

More importantly, however, the hearing comes hours after Reuters reported overnight that U.S. intelligence agencies obtained what they considered to be conclusive evidence after the November election that Russia provided hacked material from the Democratic National Committee to WikiLeaks. However, in the latest change of the narrative, this time the allegation is that Russia provided the hacked data through a third party, three U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

Podesta’s password was “password”.

The hearing I’m watching is a joke.

Trump needs to clean out State and CIA both.

Anyone involved in arming ISIS, anyone that thought hiring Al Qaeda as our proxies, needs to go teach community college in Des Moines, if they manage to escape criminal prosecution. How many hundreds of thousands of people are dead thanks to this?

Its only been a couple of months back that I saw an article stating that several dozen intel analysts had resigned because their bosses were cooking their reports to give the White House what they wanted. Trump needs to clean house.

I found it funny when this issue came up on NPR this morning. They were mentioning that Trump is out of synch with even the republicans on this issue.

Then they trot out their usual suspect “republican” to comment about being troubled by Trump’s odd refusal to believe. Yep, it was Graham, as usual. I think they tag team Graham and McCain when they need a voice of the “disgruntled” republicans.

Linda Graham just insisted we “throw rocks” at Russia for interfering in our election.
Hope he has some boulders ready for Bibi to throw at Obama for interfering in Israel’s ekectoon!

The hearing is sheer political theater filled with leading questions to score political points. If I’m Trump I brush this aside. On another note, if they plan on forcing Trump’s hand then why didn’t they force Obama’s? Are they suggesting that they are every bit as much to blame as Obama or are we to take that as evidence that they really CAN’T force the President to do anything? They keep saying Obama was the problem but apparently they could have just forced his hand and force sanctions on China and Russia and Iran...please explain.

This is also very much about distracting Americans from Islamic terrorism and inner-city crime.

If the “main stream media “ did even a minimal job, the dems would be laughed out of office.

Which is why they don't.

Stealing Podesta’s password? I wouldn’t call it stealing if it’s an easily guessable version of the most common password used on every computer:

User = jpodesta
Password = p@ssw0rd

Steal Podesta’s password, and they are talking “act of war”.

Didn't even have to steal it since the password was password. That is the first word any hacker would try when trying to access an account.

Re>Of course when they find out I have ZERO knowledge of how to “hack”, they might just send me to psych ward.

Careful. Podesta's password was "password". No knowledge was needed to hack the moron's account. They could find you guilty.

“US officials admitted that the Wikileaks “source” was not Russia, and that the goal posts now shifted to the source's source”

In other words, they lied.

Assange was correct all the time.

In other words, it was an inside job from somebody in the intelligence community who knew the Russians had full access to the less-than-secure systems, was sickened by the corruption, and gave the info to WikiLeaks. Itel community doesn’t want to own up to their culpability, so they are cloaking it under “national security.”

I agree. All the way down to the GS15 level, or however they rank members in these agencies.

I’m talking LT Colonel equivalencies all need to be thoroughly vetted.

The 'Rats should be responsible for their own data, NOT the US gov't.

Now is time to come clean on exactly what happened. I t sounds like someone hacked into Podesta's e-mail account and cleaned it out. That is Podesta's problem for accout security and maybe the 'rats problem with not checking out the IP addresses of users.

As for the "hack" of the DNC, we could use some details of the hardware and softwares being used. Plus a look at their logs, if any.

This is now turned into VERY foggy smoke and mirrors and layers of obfuscation.

The only clarity about Clapper is that he seems to be clearly a doofus.

don’t worry about the FBI knocking on your door.

Comby says on stuff like these cyber attacks, they just “sub contract out the investigation”

They are telling Progs what to think. For the next 50 years, demonidiots will blandly claim that the 2016 election was stolen by the Russians, and Trump was a Putin tool.

I offer that "Bush was Selected in 2000!" as an example of just how easy it is to steer the congenitally Stupid. 17 f#cking years, and there are millions of Leftist morons who hold to this with the faith of a French pilgrim with a Nail of the True Cross clutched in his hands... (Mark Twain once said that he'd seen enough True Nails to fill a keg.)

>They want people to think of Trump as a Russian Puppet.

Good. It will make them look crazy when Trump rebuilds our nuclear arsenal and Russia attacks him over it. He’s a Russian puppet, no he’s trying to start a war with Russia! LOL.

Apparently they are running out of disgruntled republicans. Time was they could alternate those two with Linc Chaffee, Susan Collins, and Arlen Specter but they’re all gone now.
