Americans Still See Big Government as Top Threat
Gallup ^ | January 5, 2017 | By Noam Fishman and Alyssa Davis

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- As businessman Donald Trump prepares to become the nation's 45th president, Americans continue to express more concern about the threat big government poses to the U.S. than big business or big labor. Two in three Americans (67%) identify big government as the country's biggest threat. That is below the record high of 72% in 2013 but still on the higher end of the range since the mid-1960s.

Meanwhile, the 26% of Americans who name big business as the biggest threat remains down from 32% in 2009 amid the economic recession, but it is near the average since 1965. Just 5% say big labor is the biggest threat. This is about half the level recorded a decade ago and far lower than in the 1960s and 1970s, when it typically ranked second among the three threats.

Americans have consistently been more concerned about big government than big business and big labor since Gallup first asked this question in 1965. This concern peaked in 2013, the year healthcare exchanges opened under the Affordable Care Act and former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed information about government spying tactics. However, concern about big government has declined slightly since. . .

Kind of a trick survey since Big Gov + Big Biz + Big labor, all in bed with each other = Facsism, which is really the biggest threat.

And yet (even taking cheating into account), hillary got 49 percent of the vote.

It doesn’t add up.

Yep. The R vs D UniParty tries to convince us that only one or two is a threat and that other is your friend. All three are partners in tyranny.

No? I tried to :)

I deducted 3 to 4 million voters. Still not enough, huh? :)

No, you’re right. Something doesn’t add up. Maybe the remainder doesn’t see Hillary as representing “big government”. They’re stupid, in other words.

Government has become the root cause of nearly every problem in the U.S. So bad we currently have a president who publicly incites violence and does nothing but throw out spike strips as the Trump rolls towards the White House.

No, you’re right...

I must show that to my wife. She doesn’t believe it’s possible :)

Yeah, they are stupid and likely do believe she doesn’t represent “big government”.

Only those who dont want to fund things NOT in the constitution are considered “big government” to them.

Go figure.

Well considering the last minute recklessness going on before he even takes office, no wonder attitudes have not changed.

“It doesn’t add up.”

Yea it does. Unlike Reagan’s re-election, this election was ENTIRELY a referendum on Trump’s fitness for office. No one on the left voted based on issues, including the size of government, or fear of government, they voted against Trump...that simple.

To a lesser extent the same was true in 1980 with Reagan, but after 4 years in office, Reagan proved he was worthy and won in a huge landslide. The REAL REASON that the Dems were crying after the election was not that Hillary lost, but rather that their entire, decades long, approach to demonizing conservatives is about to get washed away with Trump winning...as the demonizing only works as long as real conservatives are kept out of power.

Great post and makes sense.

Wisconsin, Michigan, PA, VA, NH, CO and NV will ALL go Trump’s way in 2020 when he kicks a@@! :)

Not sure what else we lost that was close and could swing.

I have no hope for my native NY. Too much demographic change since 1984.

We can blame the enemedia for keeping them stupid. I agree something doesn't add up but let's not forget the lying media factor.

Biggest threats to Americans, especially the younger folks:

1. National debt

2. Highest corporate taxes among G-20 nations

3. Obamacare

4. Illegals draining taxpayer dollars

5. Drugs, disease and religious extremists flooding in

6. Disparaging of 5000 year tradition of marriage

7. Socialism

Minnesota was very close too - they’ll flip. Maine likely too, once he gets the Navy work started there. Maybe some others...but between his 306 from this election, and the added state, much more than enough!!!
