In politics they say that no good deed goes unpunished. That is never truer than on the issue of school choice.
President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to be the Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, has committed an unpardonable sin. Yes, she has tried to help millions of disadvantaged families have the ability to send their kids to better schools. This is of course reprehensible behavior on her part that must not be rewarded.
Oh, and there is one more thing, she has spent millions of dollars of her own money in order to try to help these kids be able to achieve their dreams. How awful.
In Louisiana we enacted the biggest school choice statewide program in the country. And in New Orleans every public school will soon be a charter school, allowing for real innovation. There will be literally zero traditional public schools, and education is improving.
But let’s be clear, this is Holy Grail for the American Left. They will fight to the last gasp to stop anyone from delivering equal opportunity in education. They attacked me for it every waking hour after we got our program enacted, in the same irrational and nasty manner they are now attacking Betsy.
Yes, the hard Left and the teachers unions are vilifying Betsy DeVos for exactly the reasons I listed above. They believe that allowing the money to follow the child is an attempt to destroy public education and ultimately the United States.
These people are not rational. They are protecting a one size fits all monopoly that creates winners and losers in our education system. The winners are kids whose families have money and the losers are those who do not.

There are even people right here on FR who ridicule and chastize this woman and her supporters. I am in west Michigan, this woman is christian, and committed to improving education. Go get em Mrs DeVos.
Abolish the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Should be DeVos’s FIRST order of business.
The republicans have all the votes they need to confirm Devoss. If they don’t confirm her, then it shows they care more about unions and the govt education monopoly than they do about helping kids get real educations.
She has already, in the hearing yesterday when answering a question, stated she will be taking only $1/yr only because she has to take at least that. MAGA. It is encouraging that she spoke of the LA plan and the Dems were despirate to cut her off.
Trump should have picked Jindal for something....he is brilliant...he did destroy himself with putting Trump down so badly.
She can pull an Obama. Spend four years fixing the system and pull the plug on the way out the door.
It will take generations to fix the harm done to America’s urban cities. It needs to change. Go Trump.
They will not see how non-racist Betsy DV’s plans are. Just the opposite of what the left wants people (and kids) to think. How many in the anti-Betsy crowd are not attending the swearing-in ceremony? Their names and faces need to be highlighted.

If she promised that she would promote globull warming, evolution and Islam, they would cheer her.
Democrats have spent the last half-century making sure large segments of the population remain ignorant, angry and poor so that they can control them. Any REAL changes that would improve the education of Americans will be met with resistance.
