If they feel less pain why would they need a double dose? Wouldn’t they need a half (or in any case lower) dose?

These apples will be good for home dehydration - no anti-browning agent needed. The dried result should taste better.

I, for one, look forward to seeing these in the store. I’ll try them.

There actually is a genetic defect which causes afflicted people not to feel pain. It is very rare. Without having the warning of pain, people who have that defect often die very young.

Instead of turning brown, they turn this attractive green color...

Yep, pain is useful. Those genetically without it do poorly. It warns us we need to correct something pronto before further damage occurs. Rather than no pain I’d wish for a way to turn one pain off or at least pause it, on command once I’d recognized it.

That’s the primary hazard of leprosy as well.

It would be nice if there were effective treatments for pain.

Best guess is pain transmitters work differently in red heads thus the odd behavior going both ways.

These people must be racist. White apples only?

If they would cross apples with Viagra they would have something worth eating.
We eat an apple/pear cross in Taiwan that has this trait now.

They don’t work for everyone.

I get all of the side effects of narcotics, but cannot hope for even a smidgen of pain relief if I take them.

Have you tried CBD a marijuana derivative without the psychoactive effects? It’s worth a shot if not.

There’s also THC, and marinol(a marijuana synthetic i believe, but could be wrong). Marinol is dosed out in capsules that come from a pharmacy and not some seedy dispensary.

We’ve got lots of treatments for ouch. Side effects, alas, limit their usefulness, but you can usually at least trade ouch for some other problem. As a Dermatologist I wish we had treatments for itch that worked that well. We have treatments for some kinds of itch, but my impression is for a smaller part of the total than for ouch.

Winesaps are the best, in any category. But they are rare, shockingly. Used to be quite plentiful when I was a kid.
