They didn’t.
They lowered the standards.
This isn’t just limited to gender. I believe they have lowered other standards to increase minority involvement in the departments too.
Not good.
So that’s the problem! No wonder the crime rates are up.
Americans did it to America way back with the 16th, 17th, and 19th Amendments whereby we converted the Sovereign States to progressively less sovereign provinces and gave control of the economy to a central government and guaranteed that women would set the tone of the culture and the Civilization. Women and men in the aggregate want different things. Men want liberty and strength. Women want protection. When that turns to voting the conclusion is inevitable. Men build business empires and martial empires. Women build cocoons and vote to make everyone act nice and be all predictable. Again, China and Islam are masculine civilizations. America and Europe are Feminine, Europe being a few steps beyond America and visibly collapsing. America still has a robust sector, but it is only a sector, of masculinity expressed in the widening possession of guns and their dominance of that tiny area of legislation and the courts. Women will ultimately dominate that, too.
The Constitution is a masculine document. As women have come to dominate the vote the Constitution loses more and more of its parts. They are not totally rubbished but are folded and put in the sock drawer to be glanced at from time to time so that we can remember what it was like when those beastly men controlled things.
Truth be known very few of these so called leaders were ever “the first in the door” or made arrests on their own without the aid of male counterparts.Many received their promotions due to their sexual orientation and political correctness.
Women in correctional facilities as well, used as a mother figure because there were never any father figures growing up
I spent nearly 3 decades in a large, midwestern PD. Most of my time was “in the field”. I worked around and supervised female officers. By and large, our female officers were as tough and willing to mix it up with a suspect as any male officer. Now, what I did notice was that any officer, male or female, who had aspirations on being promoted to a command position, got out of the field just as soon as they could and took some back office job where the risks to personal safety were nil and therefore they lost their “edge”. The loss of their street smarts then impacted how they made decisions for the department. Just my take.

No problem with female heads of police departments as long as they are qualified and have service records comparable to their male counterparts. However, I feel on some cases these female chiefs of police got their jobs based on gender not qualifications and that more qualified males were passed over for the job. Ditto for fire chiefs. In ultra liberal Minneapolis an avowed lesbian was made fire chief a few years ago. She proceeded to promote her lesbian friends and created a scandal in the department before being forced out. The city was sued by several male members of the department who were passed over for promotion because of their gender. The current chief of police in Minneapolis is female and leaves me very unimpressed as the BLM group goes on rampages and even nearly shutdown a police precinct. Crime in downtown Minneapolis is also up under her leadership. Of course the mayor of Minneapolis is female and a left wing loon.

If I recall, PDs with more women officers have more instances of using force to get compliance by both male and female officers. The male officers have to back up and protect female officers and wind up having to use force when they normally wouldn’t. The PDs with more black male officers supposedly have the least instances of using force to get compliance.

They make it through training by not having to preform to the same standards as male officers.
And by getting a pass by management.
Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell was an incredible physician not because she was a woman, but because she was an incredible physician who had to overcome incredible odds and prejudice which held her to a higher standard than many of her contemporaries.

But at the same time, as I was alluding to, the police chief-ettes are absolute wussies in the face of disorder. They always cave and are rewarded with escalated mayhem in the streets. It may be because most female chiefs are Leftists.
Another example how the Left has infiltrated literally every institution in Western Civilization while the Republicans sat in the corner and worried about being called “racist” for the past 50 years.
And many of them play for the other team.
