It's actully been that way since the accident in 2011, but the MSM did not want to pressure Obama. Now they are admitting it's stil a problem.

“It’s expected to take at least $300 billion and four decades to fix it.”

But, by all means, keep pimping this: GLOBAL WARMING IS KILLING US!

What a fecking mess. Drill, Baby! DRILL! This alternative energy stuff is just scary and awful. And EXPENSIVE as H#LL, all the way around!

P.S. America Sucks! Americans are destroying the planet, and NO ONE ELSE!

Movie and the song, of course.

It's expected to take at least $300 billion and four decades to fix it.

Their estimate is off by about ten thousand years, give or take.

The Chernobyl accident was almost 31 years ago and they are STILL trying to figure out how to keep it from becoming a further threat to the surrounding environment. Some have calculated that if the makeshift "sarcophagus" collapses the resulting radioactive dust could reach parts of Western Europe.

I read a few years ago that up to 1/3 of the fish caught in Alaska were showing radiation burns. This is a far bigger problem than what is being reported.

(from the article) :" Housley said small levels of radiation are still being detected off the coasts of California and Oregon and scientists fear it could get worse."

Preppers on the west coast have already noticed a gradual increase in 'background radiation'.

After 6 years...it’s about time. US should offer expertise.
BTW, Uss Reagan was in the initial radiation release and had to be retrofitted. All of their water is intake from ocean and desalinized. Entire ship was radioactive. Many servicemen became sick and died

I was stationed in Germany when Chernobyl blew up. Radio active cloud went right over my house. The day after it passed they reminded us to make sure we decon our shoes prior to entering a building.

Yeah, but my first thought was some really nasty stars, not to mention quasars that spew so much radiation, they kill off any chance of life in “nearby” galaxies in that energy beam.

Re: “It’s expected to take at least $300 billion and four decades to fix it.”

It would be cheaper to bury it in 20 feet of concrete, add a few feet of soil, grass seed, and some trees.

Voila.

A brand new public park, for just $10 billion.
