I know a Lutheran in Illinois who is as conservative as any Freeper, yet goes to the same Lutheran church his parents went to, despite behavior similar to that described in the article (female minister, too).
The Episcopalian Church as a whole is officially pro-abort and all that other stuff, and yet there are some high Church intellectual types who have not yet found a new home.
While the Catholic Church’s official position is correct on these sorts of issues, the shepherds of same, on up to the top do their best to distance themselves from them. As might be expected, those Catholic justices are a mixed bag.
Gorsuch’s mom was Reagan’s EPA head when he was coming of age. He saw what happened to her and has probably learned to keep his head down. The long-term strategy to be a Justice is different than the one to be a president.
The spokes person for Gorsuch verified he DID make those derogatory statements about President Trump.
This job he has nominated for is way too important to the course of the Supreme Court to just defend it with ‘on the other hand’.
How hard is it to nominate a born again evangelical solid conservative judge?
This pretty much describes any Episcopalian church I have known. I was bothered when I heard he was an Episcopalian, otherwise known as the Anglican church in America because it is hard to keep an orthodox, pro-life Christian point of view while under that influence.
My father’s side is all Episcopalian and they like to describe themselves as Catholic-lite to which my response is yeah and a Nerf ball is a lite bowling ball. My aunt, God rest her soul, was the only regular church goer among them and she was pretty liberal- supporting the “marriage” of my lesbian aunt and encouraging my dad’s book on Buddhist meditation.
His record in the judiciary appears to be exemplary, to the extent that issues of concern to Constitutional Originalists have been put in front of him. I’m going to continue to rely upon that, however his educational and religious background as well as the nature of the church he has attended do worry me. I had assumed before today that he was a lifelong Episcopalian, that it was traditional in his family, an historical tie. I know the surname and a few who bear it, from Virginia, no doubt distant cousins. It’s an old colonial era Virginia family. I’m prone to being rather reflexively suspicious of Episcopalians, rightly or wrongly. I suppose this too is due to historical family ties of my own, in colonial era Virginia.
In my younger, far less religious and more libertarian days, I attended the backyard marriage ceremony of a lesbian couple, friends at the time. It was officiated by an Episcopal priest. Even then, it felt so utterly wrong.

It seems this man is one of those incredibly arrogant people who disguises the arrogance in a cloak of feigned humility. What, in Heaven’s name, would cause him to criticize the President who has given him the most wonderful career opportunity in his lifetime?

I’m leaning in that direction, too.

It’s a good point but Trump is not Bush and Miers did not get the of initial and universal support from the Repubs that Gorsuch has. I just do not see Trump pulling the nom
and the more I see worse it is. The Rats are going to get their 5th Judge after all.
Some people belong to churches that have become mega-liberal but might not have been that way 30, 40 years ago when they grew up in it. That’s not an excuse; but some people’s families have been in these churches for the longest time. I’m not going to name names but it’s not just the Episcopalians that deal with this though they might be the most stark example.
The only real Church-going Conservatives then, might come out of the Southern Baptists.
Actually, our Court is low on Evangelicals and I have given this thought to it.
Conservative outlets like Nation of Marriage like this guy, Cruz likes him. So, I don’t know.
I was much more libertarian (libertine?) in my younger days and, given my aunt was a practicing lesbian my whole life who I was taught to accept and I was indoctrinated to believe the Kinsey studies in high school and college, I would have probably been enthusiastically in favor of queer marriage if the idea existed. Funny thing is 25 years ago queer marriage didn’t exist as an idea except in the minds of a few radicals and now it is deemed a constitutional right by judicial fiat. We have fallen so far so fast. We cannot take another Souter or Kennedy on the bench.
All the most rock solid conservatives in the SCotUS have been regular, church going Catholics. Scalia was Catholic as is Thomas and Alito.
Gorsuch family is Episcopalian since day one. Neil is direct descendant of Rev Gorsuch

Oh yee of little faith. The guy was suppose to have impeccable credentials, so I do not see how you can blame Trump if he turns out to be less sincere in his beliefs that his record suggests. I will consider it a gift from God if this guy is not true in his convictions and outs himself and Trump pulls his nomination.
The question I have for you though is when exactly did you get on the Trump Train? If anyone takes the time to look through your posting history they will see that it took you quite a while to get on the "Trump Train". I guess that it was sometime in October, because your comments in September look like your support was half hearted at best. I will give you credit for toning it down when people started getting zotted for not being supportive of the nominee. If one goes further back... it gets much worse. But trying to pass yourself off as a Trump supporter who has now become disillusioned seems a little disingenuous.

There is a Gorsuch ski apparel company; it is mainly out of Utah and Colorado. I assume Neil Gorsuch is related to those who own this business. Pretty big in the ski industry.
Yes he did. I saw him pretend to be one in many speeches he gave.
