In a stark flashback to the events that led to Zimbabwe's terminal collapse into banana republic status, as well as unleashing hyperinflation and economic devastation, on Thursday South African President Jacob Zuma pledged to break up white ownership of business and land to reduce inequality, in a State of the Nation address which as the WSJ reports was disrupted by a fistfight, walkouts and a release of pepper spray in the parliamentary chamber.

Afrikaners have been keeping their money out of South African banks for a long time. Real estate, such as hunting preserves, have also been dirt cheap out of concerns that deeds would be rendered worthless by government action. It’s too bad no lessons were learned from the Zimbabwe experience.
I’ve heard there’s anecdotal evidence, that growing numbers of white young people are abandoning South Africa. They don’t see much of a future for themselves in what that country is morphing into. Can’t blame them.
As predicted here on this forum countless times. Eventually it will happen and those foolish enough to remain will be caught in a very bad situation.

You would think a nation with several hundred thousand to more than a million Zimbabwe refugees would learn from their neighbor’s bad example.
Perfect opportunity for the liberals in the U.S. to move to South Africa to help.

You are correct. We had a white Kid in our dept @ 15 years ago whose family had a ranch and dairy in Zimbwabe. His family hoarded their gold and got out of dodge.
Another Africaans student from South Africa was in our dept about the same time. His grandfather was killed by a roving gang of blacks on their farm.

Ok, maybe I misremember South African history but i think the only indigenous people there were the hottentots. Blacks were still further north and didn’t move down until whites had established themselves.

The population of young whites has fallen by half, because so many leave to go to school abroad in other Dominion nations and then apply to stay.
Well South Africa was colonized and developed by the white man. Had they not settled there I'm guessing the native population would still be herding and eating goats, walking 10 miles to get water, and living in thatched huts made out of cow dung (true in many countries in Africa). Some are just now discovering and learning how to raise their own crops.
