OROVILLE, Calif. (KCRA) —

Crews are beginning to make repairs to the spillways at Lake Oroville, the California Department of Water Resources said.

“Efforts are underway to make repairs to both the primary and auxiliary spillways at Lake Oroville,” officials tweeted.

Military-grade helicopters are picking up 1-ton containers of rocks from a parking lot near Lake Oroville, flying them to the erosion scar at the emergency spillway and dropping the containers into the hole.

The video shows there is not nearly enough men, equipment or materials to make a dent in this monster.

More storms starting Wednesday evening...just 48hrs.

They are letting water out as fast as they can. This is a dramatic race against time and nature, and the stakes could not be higher.

Yep, they need to run the regulated spillway at 100k cfs from now until forever to get a head start on near future incoming. Fixing the regulated spillway is way off in the future. Segregating the Spillways from the shoulder of the dam is paramount to saving the day.

California has three major problems:

1) Terrible, terrible drought
2) Overflowing reservoirs
3) More rain is coming

Little too little too late?

Prayers up, for all in harms way.

Just damn.

If only they’d done this in the many dry years. Hope no lives are lost in the effort. Sounds dangerous, especially near the power lines and with old equipment.

Baskets of rocks? This is a joke. Moonbat should have asked Trump for immediate help and assessment of level of effort to mitigate the situation... most likely the Army Corps of Engineers. Sikorskys could be dropping hundreds of 40 ton mothballed tanks into that giant hole.

After the next drought, fill it up with concrete.

There are insufficient resources onsite to lay in adequate protection for the emergency spillway. Such resources could be mustered over 30 days...but not just 3.

When the water comes over the top again, and it will, they will lose the emergency spillway letting loose 30 ft of water, 1700 ft across. The headwaters of the lake are two major forks over a dozen miles back.

That’s enough water to make you wonder if the entire structure is at risk of erosion.

What a waste. I'd like to have one of those to train some of these Maine drivers.

Yup. Could have been done two years ago when the lake was empty.

Instead, the lib governor was focused on dopey pet projects like a train to nowhere.

Oroville isn’t the only dam in trouble...wonder how many others are?

” This is a joke.”

It’s all theater. They need to look like they are doing something. No way will they tell people the mistakes are already done past and another big rain will doom to flood enormous tracts of land.

The evacuation order stands and was recently announced to be indefinite.

Makes one get the impression these people are the ones calling all the shots...including the decision not to repair infrastructure of this sort:

I saw a video of a track hoe filling up wire baskets. You need huge heavy boulders, anything less will be like ping pong balls.

The state has known that they had a problem for a decade. They did nothing. Not when the low waters of the drought exposed a much easier landscape for repairs to be made.
They had other priorities for the money. Aiding and abetting hordes of illegals financially.
The cost to provide food, shelter, and other free stuff exceeds the tax revenue paid by the illegals by 90%. It’s in the Billions.
Oroville and Yuba City are just sacrificial lambs for the lunatic liberal save the illegals effort. Moonbeam and Hollywood have other priorities.
