Oklahoma abortions: Women may need partners' permission
BBC News ^ | 14th February 2017 | BBC News

A proposal which would force women to get permission from their sexual partner to allow them to have an abortion has passed the first hurdle in Oklahoma. The bill would mean women needed written consent from a man for a doctor to carry out a termination. The bill's author, state legislator Justin Humphrey, who has described pregnant women as "hosts", said it would give the father a "say-so". Critics say it degrades women. The fact Oklahoma lawmakers decided to move the measure toward a full vote by the legislature comes at a time the anti-abortion movement is growing bolder under President Donald Trump. Mr Trump at one point suggested women should be punished for having abortions, and promised to elect an anti-abortion judge to the Supreme Court. The position of his nominee, Neil Gorsuch, on abortion is unclear.

The Associated Press says at least 11 anti-abortion bills have been introduced in Oklahoma this session, including one that classifies the procedure as first-degree murder, but it is unlikely many of those will reach the governor's desk. This particular bill would allow men to demand a paternity test before the procedure could be carried out, but does make exceptions for women who have been raped or are the victims of incest.

Oklahoma already has some of the toughest abortion regulations anywhere in the US. Last year, the state's Republican governor, who would have to sign any approved measure into law, vetoed a bill calling for prison terms for doctors who performed abortions. Women seeking abortions in Oklahoma already must undergo a 72-hour waiting period and counselling on a perceived link between abortion and breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute and other medical experts say there is no link. Pro-choice advocates are furious this bill has been tabled at all.

The man has to pay child support if she keeps it. So if it’s his kid and his responsibility after it’s born, be consistent and say it’s his kid too before the baby is born. Them feminists can go scream themselves to death for all I care.

The problem is, under Roe v. Wade this is a legal non-starter.

Trust me, my thoughts and prayers are with you, but this is not going to meet current SCOTUS muster. Courts do not like “tricky” legislation.

It’s also unenforceable. How does the woman guarnate she knows who impregnated her? If any man can sign the “permission,” then there will be flocks of liberals willing to do so for any woman.

The bottom line, reverse Roe and send the issue back to the states where it belongs.

If she has a choice on whether to deliver, he should have an analogous choice on whether to acknowledge and accept.

Dead babies can still tell with their DNA who daddy was. If the daddy didn’t give permission, the woman should have to answer as to why she lied. Of course, there are sluts on Maury who go back for DNA tests half a dozen times.

This will damage the prolife movement. Guy’s about as sharp as a throw pillow.

So in a case of rape does the woman have to go ask her rapist if it’s okay to abort? Or in the case of incest to ask permission of her dad/uncle/brother?

This is an unintended consequence of the court decisions (and in some cases, subsequent state laws) giving biological fathers the right to seek custody of children that were (unknown to them) given up for adoption.

But how do you accuse woman of the criminal act of thinking one man was father but other was.

My heart is with you, but when we try to put in any obvious preventative legislation before reversal of Roe v. Wade, we are just peeing into wind.

Concentrate on one target; don’t was time in the BS.

Legally empowering fathers to protect their children from being killed by abortion between conception and birth is one of the best things that the pro-life movement can fight for.

Most fathers love their children and want them to live.

Ok. Most women who seek abortions are married to men who love their children?

No chance

Most fathers love their children and want them to live.

That is unaffected by the marital status of women who procure abortions.

When a woman procures an abortion, her action says nothing about the character of the father of the baby, because her action and the character of the father of the baby are independent things.

No. procuring an abortion certainly says something about the character of the relationship. 54 million abortions says a lot about the character of the relationships which have occurred during a time in which the divorce rate has skyrocketed. This says to me that the men involved and their character is bad
