Pentagon ditches onerous rules of engagement, gives Mosul troops quicker firepower access

Iraqi forces and U.S. coalition troops are no longer burdened by strict rules of engagement, which some say have turned firepower requests into bureaucratic nightmares.

U.S. Army Lt. Col. James Browning, commander of 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, recently spoke with reporters about a Dec. 26 directive that streamlined the process of delivering aid. The order, attributed to U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, was confirmed on Thursday by Air Force Col. John Dorrian, the U.S.-led coalition’s spokesman.

“It changed the relationship [between forces],” Lt. Col. Browning told The Associated Press about increased flexibility on the battlefield. “It gives me a better understanding of how I can bring to bear the limited capabilities I have.”

I doubt Trump was directly involved in this. He picked Mattis. Mattis doesn’t F around. Trump delegated to someone who was sure to get the job done, so yeah, thanks to Trump. I can not wait to see what his other delegates do. I am salivating at Pruitt’s first action. Can not wait. Hell think about Sessions. Be still my heart.

Obama made sure the former ROE were designed to assure the deaths of our soldiers.

That’s how liberal fascism works.

Curious. December 26th directive. Sounds like the Joint Chiefs went rogue on Bammy because they figured out his administration was no longer engaged. I would assume those ROEs are also changed even more.

That explains our sudden increasing ability to kill ISIS starting in December.

My son was with the 505th 82nd Airborne back in ‘03 in Falluja. At the time I happened to see a news clip about these two locals who were real estate agents (I know, who the hell would buy property there) talking about how the 82nd hears a gunshot and they start spraying back. I thought you go son.

How many videos of wonderful targets have we seen disperse because the trigger pullers could not get permission to fire? How many good guys eventually died as a result? Many in both cases. I hope the new ROEs are “see a target, fire up a target.”

Pour encourager les autres. Somehow, when it's your ass that's being shot at, it doesn't seem like overreaction.

The death of hundreds of soldiers and their sacred blood drips from Mr. Obama’s legacy of hate for America.

It was a cynical change on the part of the old admin. It shoved in the faces of our people that the admin knew all along how to move this war forward. At the same time they can take credit for an obvious improvement they weren’t willing to implement in the past. They are sinister people. They intentionally ruled over death.

Agree. And he and his minions don’t care. Remember when Obama wanted to take away healthcare from our Military? He said ‘they signed up, they knew what they were getting in for’. So glad we no longer have an Admin that ‘loathes the Military’.

Xzins,

This is good news, although we are hearing about it late (issued on 26 Dec 2016) and I wholly agree with your comment:

your post implies we should know all, even secret stuff.

The reason we know now is because the enemy knows and many are dead. The reason for secrecy is no longer required. dead bodies are the testimony
