I take no issue with the recusal. In fact, Sessions, during confirmation, said he would recuse if any investigation occured about the Trump campaign. This, to me, is perfectly okay.
The problems I am seeing is what I perceived as a weak-sister performance by Jeff Sessions at the presser, in which he said a few times “I don’t recall”, and even said “Maybe I should have answered differently.”
Then this one sentence by President Trump in an otherwise flawless statement: “He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional. “
These people have all day to prepare their statements. They cannot let one opening, one tactical mistake, be contained therein.
He can’t come out swinging in this case the way he might in any other situation, since (from Sessions’ perspective) it involves issues related to legal ethics that go beyond mere politics. He has professional obligations that other cabinet members do not have, so he did what he needed to do for that reason alone.
My opinion? He was laughing at them. I’m sure he heard all the “Sessions is going to resign!”, crap, and was laughing at them.

I believe the independent counsel statute — which had been passed by Democrats in the Carter administration to deal with the aftermath of the Nixon debacle — expired in 1999 after it had been used to beat the sh!t out of Bill Clinton.

See my post just above yours. I take zero issue with the recusal. In fact, it is just Sessions executing what he promised he would do.
The problems, from my perspective, are the statements around it. The President and the AG are giving the news media “red meat” to go with.
Now, maybe it is a grand 3D chess thing, and maybe I’m just not at their level, so I can’t see it.
But from what I do understand, and from what I can see, it seems like there have been several tactical mistakes in the last 8 hours.
I wish he would have attended the Session Presser and told the assembled Rabble that this Political Coup will end one way or the other and any Obama leftover Leakers will be punished to the full extent of the Law and RICO Indictments will be issued if a Conspiracy is uncovered.
Just for fun he should also announce that General Flynn will be rehired to a Top Level Administration Position since it was obvious that he was the first casualty of this Political Coup.
I think Sessions should put the full force of his office to investigating all the criminal behavior of Obama and Company from these past eight years. ALL OF IT!
