I know some here don't care for George Will or the WashPo but I found this to be an interesting article.

George Will: elitist, atheist, deep state flak. As such he is prone to error.

Will’s writing style — which was never good — had really degraded. This is almost unreadable.

You cannot serve both God and the mammon. There are consequences when a culture chooses to serve the mammon. America has descended into a neo pagan decadence. There are consequences to unrestricted abortion, open homosexuality with all its perverse permutations, celebrity and earth worship, widespread drug use, pornography, hedonism and of course illogical political correctness and the delusions that follow.

Newspapers have almost disappeared, so “print journalism had given way to a rabble of amateurs hawking unverified stories and always to an ideological purpose.”

Yes, that's what it's like now. What does that have to do with the future in the book?

Not really. I don’t care what “dystopian” novel he thinks is a useful read.

Slouching to Gomorrah is still more accurate and interesting

Will should retire and go watch baseball at a minor league parl

George Will is someone I have come to be gravely disappointed in over time. However I may check this book out. In fact, between the previous sentence and this one it’s already been loaded onto my iPad Pro.

It has been decades since I read Sinclair Lewis’s “It Can’t Happen Here” (1935) in college, but my memory of it is that one can see what Obama and his “liberal” leftist/socialist/communist supporters end goal was and is still for the United States.

I did, indeed, see many "dystopian" books for sale at an extreme leftist book store in San Francisco. The irony of that is that these dystopian societies described in the books are always the logical extensions of leftist policies drawn to extremes. The book, "1984," is an exploration of far-left society that is really not too different than leftist policies we have now, and our media routinely operates on the principles described in the book.

Speaking to Reason, Shriver said: “I think that the bullet we dodged in 2008 is still whizzing around the planet and is going to hit us in the head.” If so, this story has already been written.

And here is another example of the left pretending that it does not stand for what it promotes. If this author really thinks we dodged a bullet in 2008, how can she be credible on anything? By that statement, she shows herself to be one of the purveyors of dystopia that she claims to be against.

Lest anyone is unclear about the significance of President Trump's election, he was elected because the American electorate saw in him our last chance to save America from the socialist dystopia that Obama very nearly succeeded in achieving. The unprecedented efforts of the left to overthrow the government now are their desperate attempts to salvage their near-success in achieving utter destruction of the American system of freedom.

I’m surprised Will didn’t close by saying that everything will turn out fine if we can just impeach and remove the President.

Will is and has long been a discredited conservative and pundit.

Why would any conservative expect or desire that America’s political system stimulate robust, sustained economic growth?

He mentions that to fortify the notion that without the illuminating wisdom provided by the press, such as he, is one of the overriding causes for the ascent into the abyss in the future.

Of course he fails to acknowledge that with the advent of the web the choices of whom to read have expanded exponentially sans the filters that newspaper print, and televised news had complete control of. Thus people are not reading less and thus far less informed, just the opposite. There are more options from which to get the facts, the real facts, from, and this has him worried. He is of course justified with his fears, because more people see him as the blowhard that he is, and thus has become irrelevant by all measures.

I'm still trying to determine what the poster found that was so interesting at this piece. It really is nothing more than a book review of a book that really covers nothing new in its fictional tale.

I got that same impression attempting to read this.

He does not even mention the most prophetic dystopian novel of all...”Camp of the Saints”.

I haven’t read” It Can’t Happen Here,” but we may have moved away from a communist future in 2016. I hope so.
