Archaeologists in Mosul have made a stunning find beneath the Tomb of the Prophet Jonah that was destroyed by Islamic State militants in 2014: the long-hidden palace of ancient Assyrian King Sennacherib.
Experts were documenting the jihadists destruction of the tombs ruins when they located the palace, which dates back to 600 B.C. ISIS had dug tunnels into the site in a search for ancient artifacts to plunder, according to media reports.
The Telegraph reports that Iraqi archaeologist Layla Salih found a marble cuneiform inscription of Assyrian King Esarhaddon inside one of the tunnels. The inscription is believed to date to 672 B.C. when the palace was part of the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh.
One of the earliest forms of writing, cuneiform harnesses wedge-shaped marks and was widely used in ancient Mesopotamian civilizations.
The palace was built for the Assyrian King Sennarcherib, expanded by his son Esarhaddon, and renovated by his grandson King Ashurbanipal, according to the Telegraph, which notes that the palace was partly destroyed during the sack of Nineveh in 612 B.C. Sennacheribs invasion of the ancient kingdom of Judah is extensively documented in the Bible. Esarhaddon and Ashurbanipal are also mentioned in scripture, although feature less prominently.
Elsewhere in the tunnel, archaeologists found ancient Assyrian stone sculptures of a demi-goddess, the Telegraph reports.

One day, in some saner time, a leader may arise who decides it is time to cut that cancer out and begin remedying 1400 years of damage that this creed of a pedophile has wrought.
This is very interesting, thanks for posting.
More confirmation that the Bible is true and real. This is the guy who lost 120,000 troops to ONE angel.
I may never see the end of ISIS but pray that God’s people will eventually eliminate them and the Muslim cult religion altogether.
I heard a sermon about this king this morning.
I always enjoy your posts on issues like this. Very nice...
The warnings will increase as we get closer to the end.
The point is that Jesus is coming back, soon, to take care of all the evil ones.

I am always wondering if the Bible will be studied in Eternity.
Interesting that people associated the site of an Assyrian palace with Jonah. Maybe further diggings will uncover
earlier remains at the site, and maybe even mention of Jonah.
Have to watch this...
The european archeologists who first excavated the Ninevah finds knew about this but left the site untouched since the Muslims would riot due to the mosque built over the site. Had they excavated and brought all that stuff back to Europe it would have been safe.
“ISIS had dug tunnels into the site in a search for ancient artifacts to plunder...”
Shows everyone what these filthy moslem robbers care about - $$$.
Maybe treasure hunters can blow up Mecca and steal its treasures.
As far as I can tell, Jonah is said to have lived in the timeframe of 780 BC, during the reign of Jereboam II. On the other hand, Sennacherib lived in around 700 BC. This newly discovered tomb dates to at least as late as 672 BC (the cuneiform inscribed artifact found within is dated to then). That's 100 years later than Jonah's lifetime. So how did Sennacherib get his tomb under that of Jonah who was supposedly buried there 100 years prior?
Seems that this casts some pretty good doubt on the authenticity of the tomb having belonged to the actual Jonah. Don't misunderstand me, this doesn't cast any doubt on the bible, just on the authenticity of that tomb as having been Jonah's. Unless I'm missing something.
I have problems balancing my checkbook...
Perhaps it was the tomb of the
