US will 'not repeat' claims GCHQ wiretapped Donald Trump
BBC ^

The US has agreed not to repeat claims the UK's communications intelligence agency wiretapped Donald Trump in the weeks after he won the US election.

GCHQ denied allegations made by the White House that it spied on Mr Trump as president-elect.

No 10 has been assured the allegations would not be repeated, a spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May said.

He said it had been made clear to US authorities the claims were "ridiculous and should have been ignored".

Are they telling us the front page NY Times report on Inauguration day (Jan 20, 2017) was FAKE NEWS?

Trump never said anything about the UK wiretapping him or his people.

What the heck is this about?

sounds like they want to put the cat back in the bag and they think it is possible somehow. Maybe it is similar to having a dirty secret between the UK and US governments which is already out in everything but the admission. It is embarassing to the UK that the UK government is paid by the US CIA or whoever to spy on US citizens which is in violation of US law and really also common decency on the part of the UK and US governments.

Sounds like utter propaganda.

This was suggested by Judge Napolitano on Fox News. The “U.S.” did not say it in the first place, and couldn’t (and wouldn’t) be able to assure anyone that it will “not repeat.”

Fake news.

Yes, based on the Snowdon and Vault 7 releases so far, in order to spy on their own citizens without the mess of getting a warrant, the UK and US governments came up with a cleaver plan: We have American’s assigned to GCHQ and they spy on Brits and we have Brits at NSA/CIA who spy on Americans. That way it is “foreign intelligence” that is being collected and not domestic surveillance.

Judge Napolitano is known to be a close associate and informal adviser to President Donald Trump. When Sean Spicer quoted from Judge Napolitano’s report of this arrangement being used by Barack Obama, it was kind of like the US Government confirming this little arrangement. The “announcement” from the May government is that the US government will not repeat these “ridiculous” assertions any more.

Which US authorities promised not to repeat these claims and why are there Democrats in office still alleging that the Ruskies hacked the US election and bought Trump and and and?

All kinds of international outrage over what the unelected Obamunists have been publicly spouting.

The NSA obtained all the info that was provided to the Brits. A rogue Brit strained out juicy tidbits relevant to the campaign and kick them back to the DNC that passed them on to Obama........ my version of what I interpret the story to be

Recall if you will the precedent. Enigma was captured and broken down by the brits and we have shared high level stuff for ever since

This accusation never came from the White House that I can remember.

That raises eyebrows and leads me to wonder if that little rumor is true. Does anyone have proof this came from the White House???

It was Sean Spicer, not Trump. From Telegraph:

“Sounds like some people are freaking out because the truth is coming into the light.

First of two parts and maybe more on the 7+ decades long history of the UK’s spying on our people and us spying on their people.

UKUSA Agreement
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UKUSA Community: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States

The United Kingdom – United States of America Agreement (UKUSA, /;/ew-koo-sah)[1][2] is a multilateral agreement for cooperation in signals intelligence between Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The alliance of intelligence operations is also known as the Five Eyes.[3][4][5][6][7]

In classification markings this is abbreviated as FVEY, with the individual countries being abbreviated as AUS, CAN, NZL, GBR, and USA, respectively.[8]

Emerging from an informal agreement related to the 1941 Atlantic Charter, the secret treaty was renewed with the passage of the 1943 BRUSA Agreement, before being officially enacted on 5 March 1946 by the United Kingdom and the United States. In the following years, it was extended to encompass Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Other countries, known as “third parties”, such as West Germany, the Philippines, and several Nordic countries also joined the UKUSA community.[9][10]

Much of the sharing of information is performed via the ultra-sensitive STONEGHOST network, which has been claimed to contain “some of the Western world’s most closely guarded secrets”.[11]

Besides laying down rules for intelligence sharing, the agreement formalized and cemented the “Special Relationship” between the UK and the USA.[12][13]

Due to its status as a secret treaty, its existence was not known to the Prime Minister of Australia until 1973,[14] and it was not disclosed to the public until 2005.

[13] On 25 June 2010, for the first time in history, the full text of the agreement was publicly released by the United Kingdom and the United States, and can now be viewed online.[9][15] Shortly after its release, the seven-page UKUSA Agreement was recognized by Time magazine as one of the Cold War’s most important documents, with immense historical significance.[13]

The global surveillance disclosure by Edward Snowden has shown that the intelligence-sharing activities between the First World allies of the Cold War are rapidly shifting into the digital realm of the Internet.[16][17][18]

Due to its status as a secret treaty, its existence was not known to the Prime Minister of Australia until 1973,[14] and it was not disclosed to the public until 2005.

My searches today are “biased” by Google pimping the “Faux News is craaaaazy” (it’s okay for leftists to allege fake news) as I try to find out....

didn’t Obama wiretap the prime minister of England?

I could find this:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/10407282/Barack-Obama-approved-tapping-Angela-Merkels-phone-3-years-ago.html
Barack Obama ‘approved tapping Angela Merkel’s phone 3 years ago’
Mr Obama was told of the secret monitoring of Mrs Merkel by General Keith Alexander, the head of the NSA, in 2010, according to Bild am Sonntag, a German newspaper.

Angela Merkel’s call to Obama: are you bugging my mobile phone?
Germany sees credible evidence of US monitoring of chancellor as NSA surveillance row intensifies

Brits certainly saw Obama as capable of demanding such invasions of privacy against non-hostile peers.
