We should be concerned. No doubt. Especially with Schlafly now suddenly dead, along with Scalia. Imagine that, same year.

Schlafly wrote that Gorsuch "probably would NOT be pro-life on the Supreme Court" and included him on his list of "unacceptable nominees."

“We should be concerned. No doubt. Especially with Schlafly now suddenly dead”

Andy Schafly is not suddenly dead, but is among those who tried to steal his mothers Eagle Forum from under her over her support for Donald Trump.

Realistically, I’d want to know much more before basing a character judgment on someone according to where they go to church. Now if he has claimed this church or its pastor as a mentor (ala Obozo and Rev Wrong) maybe theres something to this.

That was Schlafly’s son who wrote that.

But we still should be concerned. Gorsuch is liberal.

It’s not good, but it also is not determinative.

It could very well mean his church attendance is shallow based on appearances, childhood ties, or friendships.

I truly hope that Gorsuch turns out to be another Scalia/Thomas/Alito and we can look back on this thread a few years from now and have a good laugh about we worried about nothing.

But this DOES worry me. I mean, seriously, show of hands, guys... how many of YOU would sit through Sunday after Sunday at a left-wing, pro-abortion, pro-LGBT church? I don't care how lovely and wonderful his wife is and how much she feels at home in this church, it doesn't speak well for Gorsuch that he finds this church acceptable for himself and his family. Lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi. How we pray is how we believe and how we live.

A big deal in the UK - of course not only his wife but her English family are Church of England. Here’s a photo of the couple on their wedding day.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02/01/british-family-donald-trump-supreme-court-nominee-neil-gorsuch/

Her parents are the grandparents of his children, and are his in-laws.

The couple themselves appear in all of their public events to be extremely close. He chokes up when speaking about how much he credits her with his life and career success.

Some here take all of this as horrible news.

Hogwash.

This kind of thing does happen in real life.

He has in no way reflected such “horror” in his judicial career.

I thank the good Lord above for that blessing.

Hey guys, keeping Obamacare wasn’t enough, let’s ruin the Supreme Court pick and do the Left yet another huge favor! Brilliant. After all, no person or bill is ever going to be “conservative” enough, so lets just stopped everything on Trump’s agenda

My experience is that as they grow older, men who attend liberal churches grow more liberal themselves, regardless of where they begin on the political spectrum. Those that attend conservative churches become more conservative. Church affiliation makes a difference.

This is one of those FR threads that makes me think FR needs some sort of timer button to ping people back to the thread in a few years. Remember the Palin running/not running threads? Same sort of thing here.

It matters. This guy could be a disaster. I would honestly pick Mark Levin As a SCOTUS. I don’t like him but I don’t doubt that he’ll interpret the Constitution in an unwavering manner. I’d also take Cruz for the same reason. These “judges” are too unpredictable. We know them for 2 months and for the most part their answers are, “I can’t answer that”. I don’t trust Senators to truly vet them either. Levin has been clear about his position for decades. He’s not changing. This guy’s Church is a red flag. Republicans shouldn’t just rubber stamp Heritage

Leftism is a religion.

And Episcopalians are a branch of it.

Neil Gorsuch is a huge risk.

Conservatives have too often fought for "strict constructionist" types who turned out to be huge disappointments on the bench. Liberals fight hard to place liberal activists on the SC who will advance their causes - conservatives fight to place people who will maintain the status quo and are often disappointed to find that they won't even do that. The only way to stop the seemingly relentless tide of left-wing judicial activism is by appointing strong, committed right-wing judicial activists - otherwise this is simply a losing effort.

Gorsuch makes me nervous.

Well let’s see. He goes to a ultra-liberal church and disapproves of the way Trump talks about the judiciary. This guy is no Scalia and probably isn’t even as conservative as Kennedy.
