FoxNews.com ^ | 04-05-2017 | US Navy grounds T-45 training jet fleet following Fox News report

Posted on 04/06/2017 9:42:01 AM PDT by topher

News reported that up to 100 instructor pilots were refusing to fly the aircraft citing problems with its oxygen system.

“We take the concerns of our aircrew seriously and have directed a ... safety pause for the T-45 community to allow time for Naval Aviation leadership to engage with the pilots, hear their concerns and discuss the risk mitigations as well as the efforts that are ongoing to correct this issue,” Navy spokeswoman Cmdr. Jeannie Groeneveld said in an email to Fox News Wednesday.

Vice President Mike Pence's son is affected by this.

Just another Obama-mess that President Trump deal with besides the Syria Obama-mess, the North Korea Obama-mess, the Healthcare Obama-mess -- just to name a few other that President Trump must deal with.

There is also a report from Dr. Ben Carson, the new HUD Secretary that is also over one trillion dollars missing. I guess this retirement funds for the Clintons, Obama, and other Democrats and other crooked politicians.

I contacted one of my senator's and my House Rep over this. Congress needs to appropriate money to fix this ASAP.

Running the risk of losing good Military is cannot be excused, and, as I am concerned, this is DINGBAT Obama's fault.

Haven’t they had similar problems in the past with other aircraft such as the F-22?

It is really the fault of ineffective/missing opposition.

A meeting Tuesday in Meridian “got heated,” Fox News is told. The pilots told the civilians from Navy Air Systems Command their complaints about the oxygen system were being ignored. When a senior Navy pilot showed photos of a faulty oxygen system he claimed had been sent up to NAVAIR’s headquarters in Maryland, the engineers said they never received the photos.

The Deep State bureaucracy protects itself; pilots lives be damned.

I'm not a mathematician, but that seems like a fair amount of money.

You can refuse to obey an order based on certain grounds.

This is not a combat situation. One does not have to obey an unlawful order. In the first Gulf War (1990's), there was an incident where an NCO ordered an enlisted person to give him sexual relief. The person disobeyed it because it was an unlawful order.

If you feel your life or the lives of others may be affected by training missions with unnecessary risks, it can be justified.

There were a number of incidents in the T-45 recently where pilots passed out from hypoxia.

If an aircraft does not pass ground inspection, a pilot could refuse to fly it (such as a GIANT crack in the wing).

"There is also a report from Dr. Ben Carson, the new HUD Secretary that is also over one trillion dollars missing."

My guess? I was expecting it from HHS, but not HUD, it is money that was spent shoring up Obamacare...

I want a full GAAP Accounting review of the Obama years and where the money went. My guess is they could all go to jail for where they spent the money w/out congressional approval. Just a gut feel reaction, they are usually spot on....

They have found $500+ billion in accounting errors.

I believe I saw the other number on facebook somewhere and I don't remember the source.

But I believe the trillion dollar number comes from being unable to account for enough assets to justify one trillion dollars in spending.

Regardless, Dr. Ben Carson has a mess on his hands -- which I call an Obama-mess.

The UCMJ does not mandate blind obedience to every order. Indeed if an order is unlawful, your duty is to disobey that order (i.e. an order to kill enemy wounded or otherwise commit a crime).

In this case, the pilots refused to fly an aircraft they have reasonable reason to believe is unsafe, hazarding their life and the lives of their students for no good reason. If their chain of command attempted to court martial them, that fact would provide an effective defense. The leadership realized that.

Military service involves placing your life on the line during combat or critical operations. But during training, safety is paramount, casualties during training are not available for the fight. Even SEAL training, the most intense the military offers, has limits. Which is why training deaths are rare throughout the armed forces.

Yes. There was a problem in the F-22’s OBOGS system. I believe a faulty valve was the culprit as has been fixed. It would seem to me the T-45 problem is age-related, perhaps mold or some other contamination in the oxygen system that will require line replacement.

Not only is it a very large swamp, and a very old swamp, but also (Surprise!)...

...A VERY RICH SWAMP!

Will this one make the Teapot Dome Scandal insignificant?

How can any individual, or group of individuals, actually steal a TRILLION DOLLARS?

There is a serious problem. From the article:

“Histotoxic hypoxia” is the medical term associated with the disorientating disorder which can put pilots’ lives at risk, as well as those of civilians on the ground below. Two instructor pilots say the training jets are now averaging three incidents a week, as the Navy struggles to get to the bottom of the contamination.

Do you want jets falling out of the sky over residental neighborhoods?

The instructors had to boycott to get attention to this problem.

I believe they cannot account for missing assets.

So someone builds HUD housing, and now the assets are missing.

I know the $500+ billion number is right, but these are accounting errors that they are trying to fix.

I am not sure where and what the source for the trillion dollar number is. I will have to find it and post it.

Didn’t a bunch of money go missing right before 9/11 as well....

Stay safe out there

On pre-flight Red X the airplane, that grounds it, do it to enough of them, problem will be solved.

I'm an old Army guy who rose to the lofty rank of SP5 and who knows literally nothing about the Navy or about aviation. The most dangerous thing I was ever ordered to do in uniform was eat Army chow.

However...on the subject of "unlawful orders" I did my BCT in '69...after My Lai.We had a class in which an officer (1LT) touched on the subject and specifically said that one has no duty to obey an *unlawful* order. But strangely I don't recall him giving us a single example of an "unlawful" order.

Of course I don't want to see Navy pilots put in harm's way unnecessarily....I was only commenting on the "refusing" part.
