United States secretary of state John Kerry has mocked the notion that Syrian rebels were responsible for last month's chemical weapons attack near Damascus.
He has called on all United Nations member nations to "stand up and speak out" on Syria's chemical weapons at the upcoming General Assembly.
"The world can decide whether it was used by the regime which has used chemical weapons before, or whether the opposition secretly went unnoticed into territory they don't control, to fire rockets that they don't have, containing Sarin that they don't possess, to kill their own people," he said.
"I would say to the community of nations, time is short. Let's not spend time debating what we already know," Mr Kerry said.
"We have to recognize that the world is watching to see whether we can avert military action and achieve through peaceful means" the destruction of Syria's chemical arms stocks, he said.
"We really don't have time today to pretend that anyone can have their own set of facts, approaching the issue of chemical weapons in Syria," Mr Kerry said.
"This fight about Syria's chemical weapons is not a game."
Under a deal drawn up with the Russians in non-stop talks late last week in Geneva, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is to make a full declaration of his chemical weapons stockpile by this weekend.
The aim is to turn the weapons over to international control with the goal of destroying them by mid-2014.
"We need everyone's help in order to see that the Security Council lives up to its founding values and passes a binding resolution that codifies the strongest possible mechanism to achieve the goal and achieve it rapidly," Mr Kerry said.

Shut up Kerry, you are not SOS anymore, you’ve done your damage
el douchebag speaks
He’s too stupid to do anything useful at all.
Speak out! Sat, "This is delicious Burgundy, Bashar."
This article is 3 1/2 years old.
It was a false-flag operation then — and so was the most recent atrocity. (IMHO, of course.)
Live Shot is back.
didn’t kerry say that assad turned over his chemical weapons.
i pray for trump to see the truth
Oh, well if John Kerry mocks the idea, then we don’t need to investigate. Facts don’t matter only agenda matters.
TRUMP come on WAKE UP
Ha ha! I bet he’s in his bath robe and has cats too. Someone remind him that he’s un-employed.
John, take a half cup of Heinz Ketchup and a half cup of mayonaise and go make some Russian Dressing. Nobody cares what you say or do,
Let’s be sure that the attack was not a false flag by the ISIS terrorists before we take any action. It seems to offer Assad no upside, so why would he do it?
Michael Medved was sure ridiculing anyone who would suggest Assad is not behind the chemical attack today.
Is he still alive?
Lets be sure that the attack was not a false flag by the ISIS terrorists before we take any action. It seems to offer Assad no upside, so why would he do it?
