Putin says expects 'fake' gas attacks to discredit Syria's Assad
Reuters ^ | April 11, 2017 | Reuters

President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia had information that the United States was planning to launch new missile strikes on Syria, and that there were plans to fake chemicals weapons attacks there.

Putin, standing alongside Italian President Sergio Mattarella who was in Moscow for talks, said Russia would tolerate Western criticism of its role in Syria but hoped that attitudes would eventually soften.

When asked whether he expected more U.S. missile strikes on Syria, he said:

"We have information that a similar provocation is being prepared ... in other parts of Syria including in the southern Damascus suburbs where they are planning to again plant some substance and accuse the Syrian authorities of using (chemical weapons)."

He did not offer any proof for that assertion.

Basically, his propaganda campaign has been saying this for a long time.

I personally think that it was Putin that was responsible for the gas attack not Assad. right before the gas attack the United States was talking about disengaging the idea of regime change and the Russians need a destabilized Syria so they can keep there military post and port.

Well, at the risk of (once again) being labeled a “putinista” by the PRO-ISLAMIC-SYRIAN-REBEL crowd suddenly here at Free Republic, Putin's suggestion to have an international investigation of the “gas attack” DOES have merit. My suspicion is that such an investigation will not be supported by those who are adamant that they already “KNOW” who's responsible and that it is Assad.

It does not matter who did it or why other than for future decision making about policy.

Regardless of the whose or whys, to take out the stash of chemical weopons by force was a moral, courageous and humane act.appropriate warnings to avoid collateral deaths was required and done.

Putin seems to be repeating what the #NeverTrump crowd here in FR have been saying these past few days. Sadly, I’m neither shocked or surprised.

"I personally think that it was Putin that was responsible for the gas attack not Assad."

Certainly a valid probability.

What doesn't make sense to me though, why use gas at all, Assad or Putin? Was it for intimidation (of their enemies) purposes...or is it calculated to kill more per drop?

Win win claim for Putin. If Assad gasses more people, Putin can claim it was the US faking it and continue to support Assad without the diplomatic awkwardness of supporting someone who is using WMDs. And if he doesn’t, nobody will recall that Putin ever said this so nothing to lose.

Vlady made sure he was well versed in the conspiracy nonsense being spewed at Prison Planet before going public with this.

Because they are desperate to maintain control of Syria as quickly as possible. It's not rocket science.

Why not have an investigation conducted by a neutral tribunal, where all the facts are out in the open? Why are supporters of our attack so reluctant to investigate the facts allegedly justifying our attack on a government that had attacked neither us nor its neighbors?

The KGB used deception and propaganda throughout its history. The only difference now is they’ve targeted a different audience, albeit one just as gullible.

So let’s have an investigation conducted by an impartial tribunal, where all the evidence from both sides will be out in the open. Why are supporters of our attack — on a government that had attacked neither us nor its neighbors — so reluctant to allow the other side to openly present its case?

Putin propaganda in action. Additional propaganda: Russian warships are to load up the Syrian Sarin gas with an emergency helicopter airlift to the warships. Russian sailors are seen giving the helicopters 'the finger' for bringing such vile and dangerous stuff to their ships.

North Korean dictator is demanding the Russian warships take the Sarin gas to his country for use on rioters.

Assad flew a drone over. Where’s his footage? Why isn’t he waving it around showing dead blown up conventional warfare bodies to counteract Haley’s photo-show? Did his dog eat it?

==============================================================

Can't control be had with a standard bombing campaign? What about carpet bombing? Or a good ole' fashioned show of force with masses of ground troops roaming their neighborhoods?

Chemical weapons was the way to maintain control? Still doesn't add up.

Has it been established with near 100% certainty that ISIS or some other terrorist group wasn't responsible?

Where do the photos of the dead children we have been seeing come from? The press? I wouldn’t trust the press on any issue like this. Does the administration have its own information to confirm that there really are dead children?

No war is ever won by bombing and Assad doesn't have the ground troops to win the war quickly. Nor does Assad want to destroy the infrastructure of his country.

Only Syria, Russia or Iran had the ability to drop chemical weapons from an aircraft.

Insane conspiracy theories don't persuade rational people to one's side. There are good reasons not to want to use military force to overthrow Assad with having to go there.
