The sudden death of Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam — and the hours that led up to it — remains shrouded in mystery.

Shortly after the body of Abdus-Salaam, the first African American woman to serve on New York’s top court, was found floating fully clothed in the Hudson River with no apparent signs of trauma or criminality, local police said they were treating the death as an apparent suicide.

Heart attack? Cerebral aneurysm? Was she epileptic or did she have severe asthma? Anything that would incapacitate her? I read elsewhere she didn’t seem to have been in the water very long.

Yet other close friends told the New York Times that the judge was dealing with a heavy caseload, was in demand as a speaker and may have struggled handling the pressure.

Some people actually do seem happier right before committing suicide. That is because they are struggling with their misery, and once they make that decision to go through with the suicide, it takes a lot of pressure off. They are happy that they have a plan to end the inner torment. And then they commit suicide.

Thus, when a depressed person suddenly seems happier, it is not necessarily a good sign.

This came from the Washington Post. That publication is not worth the electrons used to carry it through the ether to my computer. Below the article on the judge was an article about how Trump’s ethics just keep getting slimier—a whole article full of innuendo without a single fact to back up its premise. And the people commenting underneath were *all* wondering when is something going to be done about this. In fact, the comments were so uniformly negative, without a single comment pointing out that the article was nothing but fact-free innuendo, that I suspect bots and censorship are going on there.

Perhaps people on FR should avoid using WaPo as a source. It is trash, and does not deserve the traffic.

I stopped reading the WaPO two years ago for exactly the reasons you have stated. It does not vet the information sources and seems to just yack on without fact or substance except innuendo and actual lies.

Fwiw, there is this story from NY1. She was spotted on camera walking around for several hours. They trace her path laid over a map. I like walking as much as the next person, typically do 3.5 miles in about an hour. Was the judge some sort of fitness buff ? Perhaps, just not a strong swimmer ?

Maybe I missed some prior articles, but I have not seen any reporting about what medications, if any, she might have been taking.

IF she was on any kind of medications, that individually, or combined via their interactions, could have, if overdosed accidentally, lead to some disoriented state that led to her drowning, you’d think that would be reported as either possible or as not likely because of her known meds. Instead, the reports have left that out.

ANY time suicide is considered in the era, the question of drugs and medications is a top consideration. So why nothing on it.
