A Canadian judge who wore a Donald Trump campaign hat into court after the US election is facing a disciplinary hearing and possible removal from the bench after his actions triggered an unprecedented number of formal complaints.
In November, the Ontario court justice Bernd Zabel entered his courtroom in Hamilton, Ontario, clad in black robes and a red Make America Great Again baseball cap. He reportedly told those in court that the hat was meant to mark an unprecedented night in the United States and singled himself out as the lone Trump supporter among his colleagues.
Days later, amid public anger sparked by reports of his actions in Canadas Globe and Mail, Zabel apologised for what he called a misguided attempt to mark a moment in history.
But his words of regret did little to stem the torrent of formal complaints being filed against him. In the months since the incident, the Ontario judicial council said it had received 81 complaints 10 times more than it had received about any other judge in the province.

This is disgusting.
I supported him when the story first came out, but once I learned this was in a courtroom, well...
Canada has converted to Islam. Just listen to The Prime Minister. Sharia will be next.
I suggest two walls.
Apolitical applies to Canadian politics.
In the building is not the same as sitting on the bench.
Still amounts to free speech.
But I'll go back and look for more information and see if I change my opinion.
You do know the controversy is really being provoked by Muslims....and Canada politics has become biased towards muzzies. Typical muzzie activists at work.
Well obviously a judge should not wear a political hat into court, at least by sane standards. They should dress like a judge.
“Still amounts to free speech.”
I may be wrong but my understanding is Canadians do not a protected right to free speech as we do in America.
This is how the left fights; throw sand into the gears so the machine grinds to a halt. File complaint after complaint, target advertisers until they drop objectionable programs, and on and on. Overwhelm until compliance is forced.
Canadians are "in America" too.
He should be disciplined. We certainly would have wanted one that wore an Obama hat to be.
And did Her Honor Pussyhat receive ten times the number of complaints filed against her than any other judge? Probably not, because we don’t fight that way.
We don’t fight at all. That’s why our schools are infested with domestic enemy, half our political system is dominated by domestic enemy, etc and so on and so forth.
We don’t fight. At all. Ever. It’s beneath or dignity. It would make us just like them. We wallow in our honorable defeats.
And we are very nearly owned in full by those who do fight.
Funny how that’s working, isn’t it?
Canadians do not a protected right to free speech as we do in America.
Canadians are “in America” too.”
Ok, ok how about the “United States of America”?
You are so correct.
We need to fight back, push back, complain and have an action section with addresses and links to employers, leaders.
We need lawyers willing to file complaints. We need people to sue and sue and sue.
Oh believe me, I know about the muzzie issues here. Shiny Pony Nice Hair (aka Justin) is encouraging and abetting their presence and influence. I honestly worry he may have gone apostate and joined the moon-worshippers.
I free speech it up in Alberta. There’s nobody to stop us. We’re a different breed here. Hell, we taught Texans how to be Texans.
All joking aside, we won’t tolerate the crap. It’s almost right to the boiling point and once we start, we won’t stop til we’ve won.
There’s video of shiny pony converting to Islam.
Be prepared to do what it takes.
There is no “free speech” when liberals are in control.
I can't disagree. Even when we win, we act like losers.
We should be salting the earth right now. Congress should be working overtime, rolling back decades of entrenched government overreach. Liberals should be sidelined in the corner.
Instead, they're fighting tooth and nail, getting people fired, speeches cancelled, forcing resignations, apologies. President Trump is the only person exercising any leadership while everyone under him are bumbling around like a bunch of spineless cowards.
WE CONTROL EVERYTHING! Yet, nearly 100 days into President Trump's administration, what do we have to show for it? Neil Gorsuch, barely.
