“Shattererd”: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign” Hugh Hewitt interview

Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes have combined to produce the instant best-seller: “Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign.” The book’s reporting is one stratling revelation after another about the inner workings –or more accurately, serial crack-ups– of the Clinton Campaign 2016 and will be on every short list for the 2018 Pulitzers as well as almost certainly a HBO or Netflix mini-series. Allen and Parnes joined me Thursday to discuss Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign.”

I couldn’t give a ####. Except maybe for chuckles.

As long as Trump won.

Ha! What fun that Stones Shattered video, thanks for posting it. Still laughing about Mick’s stuffed shorts...

I saw them on that tour in Munich, front row. J. Geils opened, and put on the better show. No question the Stones are the Greatest Rock and Roll Band ever, but J. Geils owned the live stage.

RIP John Warren Geils Jr.

The big revelation according to Hewitt is that after she lost the 2008 nomination she went on a witch hunt to find out who was leaking information regarding that loss. To that end she went to her email server and ordered a staffer to research all the campaign emails to find out who was leaking. She understood that she could use the server for that purpose but denied that she knew the significance of a separate server at her home during her tenure as Secretary of State.

The initial reviews on Amazon for “Shattered” earlier this week were not that favorable. Much more favorable were those for the book “Game of Thorns.” If you wanted to get just one book, anyone have an opinion on which one?

I definitely think it needs to be someone who is not in the establishment, as the selection proved, someone who is the leader for, you know, there’s so many voices in the Democratic Party right now, and I think they’re trying to find that person. And that’s why you have someone like Bernie Sanders out there campaigning for the DNC, someone who isn’t really technically a Democrat.

This is the datum that is killing me, because it's right in front of their noses and they don't want to see it. If someone like Sanders hit a nerve as he did, it is because there is nothing in the current Democrat party that energized their base. Hillary least of all. And there is a massive miscalculation going on here - Bernie didn't succeed because he's slightly to the left of Trotsky, he succeeded because of what he isn't: an establishment drone. Like Hillary. Like Yeb. Like McCain and Schumer and Romney and Schultz and every other name associated with the Powers That Be. They need to start asking themselves why Trump succeeded, and it wasn't because of the Russians or because the Republican voters are stupid or racist.

Some of this is understandable. The Dems, due to the urban nature of their power centers, tend toward machine politics and big donors, and that's not very compatible with a populist sentiment in the electorate. But B.J. Billy knew how to make them work for him. Hillary only knew how to assure them that she'd be working for them. Big difference.

Four years of violent tantrums and comic-book resistance is only going to solidify Trump's position. The Dems need to start to become a party of adults once again. If they haven't learned that by 2018 it's going to be a very long climb to 2020.

In 2008 talking heads (including some pro-Hillary ones) were describing how the issue she faced was that there was no swing vote; people either loved her or hated her, and not enough people loved her. She went on to lose the nomination to Otoken, then spent 8 years pretending to learn how to be a truly qualified candidate (to no avail).

Her primary loss to Otoken was worse than what she did to Sanders; she was winning primaries (where votes were counted) but losing caucuses (where “enthusiasm” was counted).
