Gee, thanks for posting those photos. Now that my mouth is watering, I’m gonna have a craving for any one of them, and there isn’t a restaurant within a hundred miles of here that knows how to prepare any of them. After I post this, my grocery list is going to have a bunch of additions to it.

I think Mountain House is Freeze Dried, for back packers.

Would you want to eat something that was packed when Jimmy Carter was president?.....................

Having eaten a lot of Mountain House freeze dried food, probably yes.

Absent moisture, the food won’t decay. It boils down to how well did the foil packets keep out the moisture.

I would ascertain if there are clumps indicating moisture intrusion. If not, it is probably ok.

And we see that things have ossified into chunks, just like the spaghetti and the stew did. It just wants some manual breaking up of the chunks before you measure it out.

I would not have even considered it edible...............

It must have cost a fortune to make.

The key to a good gumbo is the small loan you have to take out to make it.

Mountain House is the standard for freeze-dried backpacking food. I found a packet of their Seafood Chowder more than a decade old and heated it up to see if it was still edible. It was better than that, it was so good I tried to buy more. Alas, the individual servings are now a discontinued line.

"...paprika......"

Paprika?? No self-respecting Cajun or Creole ever put paprika in anything.
