Teens study 'democracy in action' at May Day protest

Chicago Public Schools teacher Hector Sanchez brought 20 of his students to the May Day protest Monday across from the county juvenile detention center.

The trip came as part of a "democracy in action" program for political science students at the Social Justice High School in Little Village, where they learn about government. In class, Sanchez taught students about lobbying Congress, but some wanted to know: "How do regular people lobby?"

"This is part of that," Sanchez said as dozens of protesters holding signs gathered on an empty lot at Roosevelt Road and Ogden Avenue.

Around the world, union members have traditionally marched May 1 for workers rights.

Before the 11 a.m. program started, some of the CPS students were confused, Sanchez said, by what was initially low turnout and sporadic honking by passing drivers. The teacher told them "these movements take time."

"An avalanche starts with one snowflake," Sanchez said.

The marxist indoctrination of America's youth is ongoing, and getting much worse.

Kids learning early that Communism is never as popular as the statists make it out to be.

There's your problem right there.

I guess this is Freud-o bait... an avalanche starts with one snowflake.

I find it hard to blame these misguided people too much. America’s founding had a far greater popular trust in a genuinely caring God to build upon than we have today. We’re going to get a lot of things similar to Marxism in an environment like that. It bespeaks spiritual drowning.

When Pinkos say “democracy” they do not mean elections.

Well, patience IS a virtue, and if the left has been more indefatigable than its opposition, that gives it an advantage. I see a lot of “I want it and I want it now” on FR. I guess it depends on whether this is just a place to blow off irrational steam or whether this is a place to build the most constructive ideas possible.

You've got that right. The Left will lay awake in bed at night for years cooking up something like Obamacare. Waiting for just the right minute to spring it on us.

‘The teacher told them “these movements take time.”’

Adding the missing details in the above statement...

Sadly, indoctrination and brainwashing can be a slow process. You have that pesky and annoying first amendment, which should be abolished, and people on the Internet to cry foul whenever you lie.

Too bad, it isn’t like the 60s when it was easy to fool the people.

I am endeavoring to rise above all that, springing God on everybody I can.

I get a lot of flak about that. One typical kind of flak is that I should keep “private religious opinions” to myself. Well, George Washington didn’t.

If I am as faithful as I can, I can trust God to bless the message.

If we abolished the first amendment, then only the people in power would be able to run the speech. Do we want truth itself to be dictated by whoever holds the office? Making room for truth requires that lies have a space too. If truth tellers are lazy, liars should not be blamed for it.

Reminds me of the movie, “All Quiet on the Western Front”. Professor requiting the youth.
