Blast heard in Toronto's financial district underground, heavy smoke

Toronto police have closed off a section of the city's downtown financial district after reports of a loud blast, a spokeswoman said on Monday, and heavy smoke was seen in the area.

Heavy smoke was pouring out of sewer grates at the corner of King and Bay Street, in the heart of the city's financial core, according to a Reuters witness.

Probably a transformer. I used to live next to a transformer station. I was a couple lots away. One night one blew up. WOW!

That’s the first thing I thought of.

It wouldn’t take much to disguise it as an *accident* with a *reasonable* explanation.

...... Environment Canada issued a warning earlier this month about a large increase in incidents of exploding beavers. Maybe they have begun migrating to the cities?
