Meet the Republicans Who Voted ‘No’ on the Health Care Bill
Roll Call ^ | May 4, 2017

All of them outran Trump in their districts in 2016

Twenty Republicans bucked their party and voted against the health care overhaul on Thursday. More than half of the members who voted “no” are part of the Tuesday Group, a collection of moderate House Republicans. Nine of the lawmakers represent districts that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton carried in November. President Donald Trump carried the districts of 11 of the members voting “no.”. But all of the lawmakers outperformed Trump last fall. Fourteen of the “no” votes are Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee targets. Five of the lawmakers are also part of the National Republican Campaign Committee’s Patriot Program, which assists members in tough races.

The Tuesday group sounds like a gathering of special needs kids. They should all wear football helmets

Ileana Ros-Letinen is the Republican who is in the most Hitlery-voting district of any Republican rep. She already has announced her retirement. She didn't have the fortitude to vote YES. Gutless.

She is on local Miami TV this morning saying she wants to repeal and replace but to do it "right". She has offered SQUAT. She also bemoaned that states will have the right to determine the needs of their citizens. iow, she is sad we are moving toward the direction the founders wanted when the Constitution was ratified.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Republicans actually met to discuss which seats would be most at risk if they voted to support the bill, and when they were assured of enough votes, then doled out the “nays” to those who needed it most in 2018. These are practical, calculating people.

It is what it is, these folks figured they would lose the next election.

They are the kind of folks I wouldn’t vote for.

I wouldn’t vote for most of the ones that voted YES either since they’re all RINO’s who will stab President Trump in the back themselves when the timing is right.

Obamacare was for the big folks, healthcare industry, insurance companies, pharma. It was to make sure their bills got paid since ‘freeloaders’ were showing up for treatment without insurance and business was paying too much for their employees health insurance.

I’m sure Ryan and McCarthy took care of them in the final piece of legislation.

Don’t know enough about the bill that passed the House to say if it’s good or bad. What I do know, is that it was sausage making at its worst, with ‘Pub votes determined by only one factor: “Will my vote help or hurt my reelection prospects?”

RINO jerks.

>>Tuesday Group, a collection of moderate House Republicans

Nancy Pelosi was calling for Moderate Republicans to help the Democrats out. I guess these Tuesday Groupies are the True Believer Progressives of the GOP, the subs for Mistress Nancy.

Comstock is the one who famously said "I am Hillary", recognizing her own behaviors and instincts in the most evil human being of our age.

I will be glad to see Ros-Letinen GO

She is always on the wrong side of any conservative issue
She’s been fractious way too many years

You’re uninformed or misinformed. When hospital bills go unpaid they calculate the losses into future billing.

This way the bills are paid by other patients and thier heath insurance companies.

I’ve wondered about that. It goes for doctors too

Typically, a bill will be tendered and medicare will pay it partially. What happens to the accounting?

In theory, the unpaid remainder becomes a bad debt. On a corporate income tax form, bad debts are deductible to reduce income and thus taxes.

Do doctors and hospitals then pay taxes?

I am ashamed to say that my representative (LoBiondo) is one of those renegades. The problem is this district is largely Democrat so he IS representing his constituency. I vote against him each time in the Primary when he is rarely challenged but that doesn’t work. I skip that box in the General. I write him and he never writes back. This is how it is in New Jersey. Welcome to my reality!

Barbara Comstock is a total RINO. Her district is the wealthy part of NOVA just outside of DC. There are many government workers in her district that are dems, but about no one in her district is on Obamacare. Her vote is a disgrace.

“Will my vote help or hurt my reelection prospects?”

Self interest is the strongest and most basic of human traits.

We are all driven by it, including (or especially) politicians. To expect politicians to somehow be holier than thou is to delude yourself.

What our system lacks is a much more responsive mechanism that would hold the politicians feet to the fire so that they would never stray from seeing their self interest as that of the people that elected them.

I partially agree with you, especially regarding mechanisms to hold politicians’ feet to the fire.

There is altruism in certain persons, including a few politicians who will go against self interest to do the right thing for their constituents and the nation. These typically are the ones who enter government for only a defined period of time to accomplish a specific goal, are not too concerned about reelection, and return home afterward.

We also see people acting in others’ interest in various areas of society, particularly in the armed forces and among spouses & parents — people who would do anything for their battle buddies or family members, including sacrificing their lives.

So yes, self interest is a strong and basic human trait, but is it not the strongest. That is reserved for love, courage, and honor, also intrinsic human characteristics.
