if it’s such a great idea to replace, then start a voluntary fund

Give her an Earl Scheib Special, a few cans of Flex Seal and Marvel Mystery Oil, and I bet we can get another 20 years out of her. Hey, I'm a guy. Ain't nothing a roll of Gorilla Tape can't fix.

How about we just send a 50 megaton boomer instead. It’s time to stop playing footsie. If you mess with US, you get the best.

Two 5 inch guns and torpedo tubes about half the size of those on a WWII destroyer.

Sadly, the Iowa-class ships were obsolete when their keels were laid; the Navy only changed due to what are now historic events.
I’m not convinced that history isn’t repeating itself with the Zumwalt...

And if the torpedo tubes you are referring to are the ones on the fantail, I think those are chaff launchers to confuse incoming missiles.

Two 5 inch guns and torpedo tubes about half the size of those on a WWII destroyer. And 2 x 61 cell, Mk 41 vertical launchers, that handle an assortment of missiles, or just 122 Tomahawks. Plus the Aegis system. A radar system and EW system that a WWII ship could only wet dream about.

Yes, the MK46 torpedo has a dinky warhead.

Agreed. Either send a dozen known or one that I KNOW we can build.

The torpedo tubes are for lightweight anti-submarine torpedoes. As for the 2 5” guns, the 5”/62 Mark 45’s have a much higher rate of fire than the WWII era 5”/38’s
But the main armaments are in the two 64 cell Mark 41 VLS’s.

I think the Ohio-class sub carries about a 90 megaton total. 475Kton*24 missiles*8 MIRVS/missile. Just spit-balling, but I think that is accurate.
PLENTY of destructive power: 192 warheads capable of up to 475Kton.

Is the basic composition of a carrier group based on the carrier, an attack sub, a replenishment ship, 2 frigates, 2 destroyers and 2 cruisers in general ? Then depending on the mission additional ships added ??
