I’m not devastated by it, and seeing how the NEA is teaching our children anything at all, I don’t care if they have no money whatsoever.

Starve.

SAT test scores are way down. MORE money doesn;t fix anything. Breaking up the monopoly that the NEA has on education will bring progress. CUT THE BUDGET...and save all of us money. Some of us preferred to teach our children at home free, and they learned MORE.

"I’m not devastated by it, and seeing how the NEA is teaching our children anything at all, I don’t care if they have no money whatsoever."

A meat processor probably has more regard for livestock than the NEA has for children because they are paid based on the quality of their product.

The Federal Government has no business being involved in education and certainly not in using federal tax dollars for it!

If we can't get rid of the DOE, then we should turn it into a mere passthru:

1. Whatever money doesn't go for salaries and operations, send back to the states in proportion to the amount of income taxes that come from each state
2. Implement hiring freeze
3. Implement scanning/recording tools on all computers
4. Give most (now useless) employees little to do
5. When they use a computer for non-governmental purposes (which they eventually will) then give them a choice of retiring or being fired for malfeasance
6. As the number of employees dwindles, end leases, sell buildings, and co-locate the remaining core

Overtime you could get to something close to 95% of the budget being returned back to the states from whence it came. The DOE would still exist, but it would have little or no effect on education policy or overall government debt.

Follow the money. . .text book companies, testing agencies, contractors, technology contracts, useless conferences and workshops, nonsensical curriculum, inept state departments of education, unnecessary technical assistance, inordinate amount of paperwork, senseless rules requiring costly enforcement, etc. etc. etc.

UC CAL/ UC DAVIS
over 2/3rds of undergrad students receive a financial aid package averaging over $16,000

Tuition: UC Cal:
Tuition and fees $13,500 (inc’d fees: $1,074)
(stuff voted on by previous student bodies that future student bodies pay for)
Books $ 1,500
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/paying-for-uc/tuition-and-cost/

Tuition UC Davis:
Tuition and Fees $14,056 (inc’d fees: $1,752)
(about $1,500 is fees for stuff voted by previous student bodies that future student bodies pay for)
Books $ 1,601

https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/cost/

Both estimate living costs (rent, personal expenses, transportation, health insurance, etc) at another $10K a year (non-campus living). That’s $1,000 a month or a part-time job share of cost. What’s the beef?

Looks to me like a lot of duplicative programs that haven’t been proven to deliver anything...neither has Title 1 funding.
