What if the Normandy invasion had occurred on June 6th, 2007?

How would the modern media have reported it?

Pretty good video but they miscast the newsreader. She’s not up to the task and the way they film her does not look realistic.

I agree with you about the newsreader (she actually sounds like an NPR newsreader).

But the script is spot on, and I think the point is well made.

“Unnamed sources” declare US efforts a complete failure. No safe space created for the German immigrants. US creates disastrous environmental impact to the sensitive French coast. And (of course)…women and minorities intentionally excluded.

The American news media have been reporting American military operations as disasters since 1861. Why expect them to stop now?

Agree. She has a "deer in the headlights" look about her. Modern MSM anchors speak in more confident pitches; they roll their eyes at the mention of a political leader they don't like; they question the strategies of military leaders whom they scorn. For more realism, they need to throw out some sympathetic polls for the Germans; maybe show some poor German kids scouring the streets for food, or show a "German, baby-milk factory" being blow up by Allied bombs.

NPR would have said something about the “fierce fighting.” (If fighting isn’t fierce, they don’t bother to report on it.)

We'd never gotten ashore as the NYT and CNN would have leaked the plan.

They would have excoriated the Sherman as a flawed tank and questioned why the Germans had better tanks such as the Panther and Tiger.

The initial strategy and failure to rapidly move out of the bocage area of France would have been faulted to the nth degree.

But with FDR as president....probably nothing critical aimed at his direction.

You are only a little bit over the top, but I would bet my IRA that if a reporter of today had learned that First US Army Group commanded by Patton was a phantom army of radio traffic and inflatable tanks they would front page such news. Then when 15th Army pivots against Monty’s left flank because there is no reason to fear a landing in the Pas de Calais the Allies would be left with a Dunkirk with no port facility and waiting for Trinity to arrive. With minimal fear of another landing instrength the Nazis could turn their efforts to defending the Reich against Russia. They could not win, but could cause Stalin to settle on a separate peace. But the press would celebrate the scoop and revile military secrecy.
BTW there was one similar incident in June of 42 when the Chicago Tribune, owned by FDR hater McCormick, ran a story that claimed Nimitz was aware of Yamammoto’s plan because they had cracked the IJN code. IIRC Marshall and the AG wanted the reporter and editors arrested, but Admiral King warned against doing so, doubting the Japs read the Trib, but knowing they would become well aware if the govt made an issue by arresting the reporter.

Listening to the radio broadcasts, it was interesting to note that the first reports were all from German sources, and they had to constantly remind people that they could have been fake in order to trap resistance groups.

Also one thing. The Leftists were definitely on our side because we were fighting on the side of their beloved Soviet Union.

Environmental impact of the invasion on the delicate ecosystem of Normandy is under investigation by the EPA.

And of course on Jun 5 Allied planes would have dropped warning leaflets. “You have the right to remain silent... Vous avez le droit... Sie haben das Recht...”

They would demand to know if Ike had an “exit strategy” or worry that our response was “disproportionate”. Thousands died on D-Day, but today’s media reports on every death in Iraq or Afghanistan.
