Soares unveils juvenile justice reforms

ALBANY – District Attorney David Soares launched a three-pronged juvenile justice reform initiative Tuesday to allow non-violent felony defendants between the ages of 16 and 24 to resolve their cases without a criminal record or any time behind bars.

"What would a reformed criminal justice system look like ... if we came together and really imagined it?" Soares asked at a news conference in the jury room of the Albany County Judicial Center. "These projects, if applied and engaged in at the same time, we believe will lead to tremendous criminal justice reforms."

The initiative — which began as a pilot program in January 2016 — allows the non-violent felony defendants to accept accountability for their criminal wrongdoing before a panel of community members.

As with a grand jury, the panel members listen to cases and decide whether they should be "prosecuted traditionally or alternatives should be sought for these cases," Soares said.

Soares called that aspect of his initiative "Project Reclamation." Soares said it now has nine participants.

One big problem.

Once someone reaches the age of 18, they are an adult, and responsible for their actions. They're not juveniles. The Left pushed the voting age and age of majority down to 18 a long time ago. This was based upon the view that men between the ages of 18 and 21, who served in the military, should have the right to vote.

Now they insist upon viewing those between the age of 18 and 24 as juveniles? Talk about convoluted.

Maybe the reason is that protection is needed for the group of violent, socialist activist (between the age of 18 and 24) that have been recruited to serve Soros, Hillary, and Obama’s cause (BLM. OWS and others). They are desperate to protect them from the consequences of their actions.

This District Attorney, David Soares, has never prosecuted a felony in his entire career, supported by the “Working Families Party” (aka: Acorn-Northeast) and counts Soros as a donor.

I’ll be curious to see if possession of a concealed weapon and drugs will be interpreted as a non-violent offense? But then, will we ever hear what results from the community (activitst) court? Probably not and that’s the point.
