It did not take long for journalists on Twitter to start politicizing the Alexandria shooting that targeted a group of Republican Congressmen on Tuesday, as Atlantic Editor David Frum was quick to make a gun control argument.
“There was a terrible fire in London.. Would any British person say in the aftermath ‘this is not the time to discuss fire safety?” said Frum in a tweet, just more than an hour after the news of the shooting broke.
John Podhoretz, the editor of Commentary Magazine, admonished Frum in a responding tweet.
“Seriously, David, wait an hour before you start wagging your finger and delivering a lecture,” said Podhoretz.
Undeterred, Frum doubled down: “Given the non-stop carnage in [U.S.] due to our inability to acknowledge our national firearms pathology it is always the right time to raise it.”
Podhoretz continued, “did it make you feel all warm inside to type this? Good. I’m glad you gave yourself a nice pat on the back for your evolved views there.”
“What inappropriate condescension,” said Frum. “Does it make you feel better to pontificate directly or indirectly in defense of the indefensible?”
“I’m not condescending to you,” said Podhoretz. “I’m repulsed by you. There’s a difference.”

Steve Scalise was injured in the attack, in addition to a congressional staffer and two Capitol Police officers. One of the officers was able to fire on the suspect, disabling him.

In a sane world, it goes down like this one did. Bad guy comes to shoot lots of people. As soon as he shoots, good guys with guns put him down.
Remember Paris shootings? It went down a little differently. Police officers died. They were shot with impunity significantly AFTER the whole thing began.
So who really has this “national pathology” about guns?

Governor McAuliffe just talked about guns on the streets at the press conference.

Virginia Governor certainly didn’t waste time blasting ownership of guns - too many, too readily available, gun shows, loopholes. He certainly has his talking points memorized. At least Scalise had armed security.

According to McAwful, 93 million Americans die from gun violence every day.
This works in other ways that would cause Progressive heads to explode.
Like:

And Terry McAuliffe says “We lose 93 million people a day to gun violence” several times, before claiming today is not the day for the discussion of gun control.
He was then thrown a lifeline by a reporter who offered that “93 million seems like an awfully high number”
McAuliffe corrected himself.
It’ll come loud and clear over the months about gun control and sales will again go through the roof...
Yup, McAwful is pushing gun control. The cops are claiming they got there in 3 minutes. Other than the Capital Police who were already there, the earlier reports all said it seemed much longer than that.
